A few weekends ago, The Hubs surprised me with a trip to Laurel, Mississippi. I’m a big fan of Home Town with Erin and Ben Napier on HGTV, so I’ve been wanting to go check out their area for a long time. It’s as homey and welcoming as I’d imagined. The people are nice and, seriously, it’s everything I thought it’d be. I took a lot of pictures while I was there, so I’ll be sharing them over the next few days, weeks, I don’t know. I just know I’ll be sharing them.
As an added note, I didn’t take any pictures of the renovated homes because it felt intrusive. I know the homeowners probably expect it, but I saw a sign that read “NOT FOR SALE! DON’T ASK!” and that just kind of drilled home the desire for privacy. So, here are pictures from the public spaces.
Dedicated to Laurel native, Leontyne Price, the Leontyne Price Musical Park is a sweet little respite in the center of town. Named for the famed Black opera singer, the Leontyne Price Park was built to enable people to experience music and the joy that it can bring. Below, are pictures of the park’s instruments.
There was a couple sitting on the bench when we first arrived. I wish I’d not been too shy to ask for a video of them making music.
Please take a moment and listen to this Kennedy Center Honors Legend interview. I love and admire her pride and dignity. To hear her sing, click here.
Within the same area of the park is the Pine Belt Fine Arts Cooperative Outdoor Gallery, a creative space consisting of murals with Bible verses inscribed throughout.
There are benches throughout the space where you can sit and rest.
Come back for the next set of pictures, I’ll be showing you pictures of murals from around the area. If you’d like to see pictures of some of my favorite buildings, click here.
See ya soon,
