Classes started last week and, y’all, I can’t tell you how much I enjoy the first weeks of school. Everyone is buzzing with that fresh start energy, you know? And, much like when my kids were little, I felt the need to go school shopping. I bought a new planner, some pens, and, of course, a new dress.
WHAT I WORE
I’m a big fan of Zuri’s dresses. I like the shape, fit, fabric weight, and, of course, the prints. Because the dresses have a bit of an A line shape, they skim the body comfortably, allowing for ease of movement {which I need when I’m introducing students to library resources or taking pictures for the first day of school}. The fabric weight is heavy enough that it’s comfortable layered with sweaters or jackets in the winter or on it’s own in the summer. Normally, this isn’t a color that I’d gravitate towards, but with this print? I couldn’t help myself.
As a bonus, Zuri is a woman owned company that sells sustainably and ethically made clothing, providing a fair wage for communities in Kenya.
And, as usual, I paired my dress with my favorite pair of boots from Miz Mooz and a pair of knee socks. There’s something funky about boots and socks with dresses and skirts.
I wish I’d gotten a better shot of this cardi, it has our school name embroidered on the side. It’s a fun way to show school pride without going all jersey or sweatshirt {both of which I have for spirit days}.
For my accessories, I added in a bit of arm candy and heavy black framed glasses.
WHERE I WORE IT
I spent the day driving to our different campuses so I could meet the students, talk about the library, and take pictures for their first day of school. This is, hands down, my favorite part of the job. I really enjoy talking to our students.

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Shelbee {Shelbee on the Edge}, and Marsha {Marsha in the Middle}. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of them selects an inspiration image and they each post the image on their blogs. The following Monday, they share their art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10 PM Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.
