Hey, y’all, hey!  How long has it been since I’ve done a style post? At least two or three months, right? Some things have changed in that time — check out the hair, IT GREW!! I’m fully natural now and pretty much just letting my hair do whatever it wants to do. I still keep the front twisted because I cannot stand having my hair in my face {despite the fact that I keep giving myself bangs}. The right side is still shaved, but I’m growing it out now. I’m also embracing the gray. You can’t really see it in the pictures, but the right side has a nice little sprinkling of salt and pepper. There’s also quite a few red strands {some are so red they look burgundy}. I’m almost certain that’s from my dad’s side of the family. I remember him having quite a few red strands in his hair when I was a kid. My twin sister’s middle son is a straight up ginger, which is weird because none of my kids inherited red or sandy blonde strands from me. In fact, my sister and joke that our kids were genetically swapped.

WHAT I WORE

I love a good button down shirt. Especially a denim button down shirt. But you know what I rarely wear? A good denim button down shirt. I don’t know why, because every time I pull this gem out of my closet I think, Girl, you really need to wear this shirt more often, then it goes right back into my closet for another year or so. You can’t tell because it’s tucked in, but the hem is unfinished, which gives it a slightly distressed and comfortably worn look, which is perfect for the weight of the denim — light but not thin. And that shade of denim goes with everything, making it the perfect layering piece.

I love a gold hoop. It’s my go-to when I’m in a hurry and don’t have time to play in my jewelry drawer. But a little over a month ago, I accidentally {of course it was an accident, who would do this on purpose} ran over one of my gold hoops. I was soooo angry. I’d had those hoops since my Pennsylvania days. They were one of my first purchases when I started working as a librarian. After I recovered from my loss, I started searching for a replacement pair. Y’all, I didn’t realize that gold hoops had gotten so expensive. I found the pair I’m wearing at CVS for like $10. I know they won’t last and they can’t replace the pair that I damaged, but I just needed some grab-and-goes, you know?

I’ve always wanted a pearl necklace, but I wanted something unique and a little funky. When I say that I searched for years for something like the one I’m wearing, I’m not exaggerating. This one is a combination of a string of pearls intertwined with a gold chain link. So fun. And the flower necklace is just a little something I picked up from Target many years ago. I’m really in to the layered necklace look now, so I like the way they kind of nestle together.

I can’t remember where I picked up the longer necklace but I remember liking the clinky sound that it makes when it moves. I’m easily amused. The bracelets are a mix of gifts, fair finds, and museum memorabilia {the best way to remember museum and art gallery tours is not to buy post cards, but jewelry}.

That ring is well over 15 years old. When we lived in Pennsylvania, there was a one who owned the sweetest little gift shop and she handmade clay pieces like jewelry, coffee mugs, and such. I instantly fell in love with this clay ring and snatched it up. It’s another piece that I don’t wear often, but when I do, I’m reminded of one of the good people I met while I was there.

The bag is equally as old. I bought it many years ago from QVC. I’m not normally drawn to green, but I thought this bag – with all those cargo pockets – would fit nicely into my closet. And it does. Whenever I carry her, I get compliments.

If you’ve been here before, you know that I’m a big fan of repurposing clothes. This skirt is actually a pair of pants made from repurposed silk saris. I like that it’s light and flowy but also gives me coverage if it gets a little windy. The elasticated waist band ensures that it will always fit. And it’s sustainably made. Win win.

This is the completed look. I was comfortable and felt put together for a day in the library.

WHERE I WORE IT

I wore this outfit to work. I knew it was going to be a relatively slow day, spent on campus, probably in front of the computer, so I could be a little more eclectic with my outfit. Yes, there are days when I think it’s gonna be slow and I end up having to photograph an event for the chancellor, so I do keep a blazer and a nice cardigan in my office for days like that. A nice blazer or neutral cardi can instantly raise an outfit from casual to business casual {with a twist of spice}.
