Where Bloggers Live: Winter’s Hidden Charms

I started this post about 8 times with the standard “Happy New Year!” but I just couldn’t bring myself to hit “publish” because what I really want to say is “WTA____?” We’re only eight days in and we’re already on the precipice of a global conflict, people are losing healthcare, women are still not being believed, etc. This is just too much. And, before you say, “I didn’t come here to read about politics” or “I don’t do politics”, I want to warn you that EVERYTHING IS POLITICAL. Reading is political, or people wouldn’t be trying to ban books. Watching television is political, or you wouldn’t have people trying to consolidate television stations. Clothing is political, or you wouldn’t have people policing other people’s outfits. Social media is political, or you wouldn’t have shadow banning. It’s all political, you just may have the privilege of hiding behind your thrifted rose colored glasses. For now.

That being said, I also believe that joy is resistance. And this – sharing my outfit posts, reading and posting about my books, answering these monthly questions – brings me joy. I refuse to allow all of what’s going on out there suck the life out of me and keep me from celebrating and sharing the daily glimmers.

THE PROMPT: My Five Favorite Things about Winter

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest…

Here are my five favorite things about winter:

  • Not living anywhere that gets snow
  • Being able to get into my car without having to tunnel my way through the snow
  • Wearing a sweater and complaining about it being cold while my kids {who don’t live with me} are bundled up to their eyeballs just to walk to their cars
  • Not rethinking my life choices as my car spins in circles in the middle of the street
  • 75° in December

As you can tell, I am not a fan of winter. At all.

I should note – because this is super important – the creative brain behind this project is Bettye at Fashion Schlub! Love her!
