Where Bloggers Live: My New Year’s Resolutions
Y’all. Twenty twenty-five pretty much shoved twenty twenty-four out the door, grabbed the hardest liquor in the cabinet, and said “I’ll take it from here.” I mean, seriously, what the actual ______ is this nonsense? How do we start the freaking year off with terrorist attacks, a mass shooting, expansionist threats, and a devastating fire? This is all just too much. Sorry, didn’t mean to start off quite so, I don’t even know the words, but this is pretty much what I’m feeling right now. But we’re gonna plow through this. We’re survivors, right? Right. On a more positive note, The Hubs, my sister, her husband, and I ended the…

Vision Board Bingo: 2025 Goal Setting
Can you believe we’re a little over a week away from 2025? I feel like 2024 just flew by. I’m trying to remember all the things that happened this year and all I’m getting is a blur. A big ol’ fuzzy blur. This is not a good feeling, especially since I know I accomplished something. I had to have, right? Right? Right. Anyway, I’ve decided that 2025 is going to be different. I want to be able to look back at the end of the year and see all the bright spots. To that end, I’ve customized my iPad so that it works much like an interactive digital journal. My…

Where Bloggers Live: The Best Gifts I’ve Ever Received
When I was in my early teens, my best friend, Alisa, introduced me to Danielle Steel. Danielle Steel is an American author whose books are characterized by young women with traumatic childhoods who marry wealthy, much older men. Initially, I was caught up in the romance of the stories… To my thirteen-year-old mind, wealth and glamour went hand in hand with love and romance. Never mind that these women were marrying men who were old enough to be their fathers. That being said, one story stuck with me and would have a significant influence on me. Message from Nam told the story of Paxton Andrews, a female war correspondent who…

I know, I know, it has been a minute. Y’all, life has been lifing lately and I haven’t really felt like doing much more than the bare necessity to make it day-to-day. But I think I’m back. Or, at least, I hope I’m back. Some of the challenges of the past few months have either eased up or…

10 on the 10th: August 2024
Classes start on Monday and I’m ready for it. Granted, I’m not a student, so my path is a little easier. I always look forward to the beginning of the school year, the students are all lively and full of hope and promise. The energy is palpable — I love it. With that being said, here are five things I liked and disliked about my own school experiences. ABOUT 10 ON THE 10TH 10 on the 10th is hosted by Marsha at Marsha in the Middle. In the tradition of old school blogging, she’ll share a list of ten questions or prompts to help us get to know each other…

“You Have a Little Bit of Cancer” {Repost}
Twenty-three years ago, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. It was quite possibly the most terrifying thing I’d ever experienced. My babies were 3 and 1/2 years, 6 years, 6 years, and 8 years old. I was terrified that I was going to leave them motherless. At the same time, the doctor discovered what he called “diseased tissue” in both breasts. To this day, I still don’t know what “diseased tissue” is or if the two conditions were related. I just knew that something was terribly wrong with my body. My primary care physician, who delivered the news over the phone, was unprofessional and unsupportive. She abruptly quit as my…

10 on the 10th: July 2024
It’s funny that this is the prompt for this month, as I’ve just returned from an impromptu trip to Pennsylvania with my daughters. Originally, it was supposed to be The Hubs and me, but we couldn’t find a place to board the dogs, so my daughter went with me instead. It was a whirlwind trip, but it was one that I’ll treasure forever. ABOUT 10 ON THE 10TH 10 on the 10th is hosted by Marsha at Marsha in the Middle. 10 on the 10th: June 2024
Hey, Friends! How’s it going? Things are going well over here. I spent the day prepping for a photography project for the coming week. Our college is co-hosting a manufacturing camp for high school students, and I’m taking pictures for the event. Normally, I simply take pictures for our college, but tomorrow, I’ll also be taking pictures for one of our community partners. The photographer who was originally scheduled to take pictures couldn’t make it, so I’m filling in for him. These assignments always excite me because it gives me an opportunity to stretch my photography muscles, but I also stress because I’m filling in for a photographer who has…

As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support. Hey, Friends! Welcome to 2024. Can you believe we’re in a new year? It really does feel like it all passed so quickly, right? I won’t make any promises for this year. I never seem to follow through and, quite honestly, I’m tired of apologizing for it. So I’ll make every effort to just be and do better…

Where Bloggers Live: My Favorite Christmas Decorations
As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support. I’m the laziest of Christmas decorators. When the kids were little, I couldn’t wait to put up the decorations. Of course, this is no surprise, as kids tend to make things magical. Once they moved out of the house, I still decorated but it was all last minute. This year was no exception. I literally put up the…
