Guest Post: “Nobody Wants Koolaid” by Brie Tucker
This a monologue-type response to an article my mom wrote that I performed for my speech class today. It’s called Nobody Wants Koolaid (alternatively, “Things I Learned When I Moved Out”) and I wrote it about twenty minutes before it was due. Go me. Yay college. My mom wrote an article for a magazine the other night. The first line: Someone is always gonna want Koolaid.” It was essentially an article about how my parents are empty-nesters And no longer have four toddlers pleading for sippy cups to be filled with Koolaid. The take-away is that nobody wants Koolaid Because we are all self sufficient adults now. I’ll tell you the…

Coffee Talk: A Question of Salvation
I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. If you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun. So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk… My biological father died eight years ago last month and my biggest regret is that I didn’t take his last phone call. I saw his number on my…

Blogtober: My Favorite Perfume/Scent
I’m a librarian and work around people with varying degrees of scent sensitivities, so I don’t wear perfume on a daily basis. I also have sensitive skin, so I have to be careful what I use and how often I use it. One of the few perfume lines that I can use without too much of an issue is Philosophy. I like the line but sometimes the scents can be a bit too, um, precious for me. I lean towards the darker more exotic smells like red plum, passion fruit, patchouli oil, blood orange, sandalwood, and black orchid. And leather. Don’t get me started on the smell of leather. I…

Visit Cape Instagram Takeover
You guys, I’ve been almost at the bursting point with excitement for the last few weeks and now I’m finally able to share… I’ve been invited by the Cape Girardeau Visitor’s Bureau to participate in an Instagram Takeover! An Instagram Takeover is basically where I sign in to Instagram as @visitcape and post pictures from their account for a designated period of time. How cool is that? Since moving to Southeast Missouri, The Hubs and I have been totally enamored of the area. We enjoying strolling down the River Walk, window shopping at the various antique stores, and sitting along the mighty Mississippi River with coffee in hand… I’d been tagging my Instagram pictures…

Happy Fist Bump Friday
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know that I like to do a little something called “Fist Bump Friday”, where I encourage my friends to share something that made them happy during the week. Sometimes we get so bogged down with life and the crazy that comes with it that we forget to acknowledge the good things. So I thought it’d be fun if we all shared and celebrated together. This week I’m happy that The Hubs is coming home today after a week away. So please, share your good news in the comments below. Remember, it doesn’t have to be big or earth shattering. If it’s…

Old St. Vincent’s Catholic Church
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, some of my best adventures happen by chance… This past Saturday, The Hubs and I were out for a drive when we noticed a sign in front of Old St. Vincent’s Catholic Church that read “Open for Tours”. I’ve been dying to go inside pretty much since we moved here {I have mad love for gothic style buildings, old homes, and cathedrals/churches}. So, yay for the signage! We went inside and were treated to a tour and a bit of a history lesson. The first St. Vincent’s Church was constructed in 1838 and destroyed by a tornado in 1850. The existing…
