Goldy Bronzey Gladiator Sandals {Shoe Style Saturday}
Those are my goldy bronzey gladiatoresque shoes. I absolutely adore them. I’ve never owned metallic shoes before, I was never quite sure how to get those silvers and golds to fit into my wardrobe. Of course now I understand that you have to treat metallics like a neutral and let them be your statement piece all at the same time. Such a delicate balance we wanna be Shoe~a~nistas walk! Do you like that word? I made it up. This week was spent trying to find our summer groove. My kids are older so I don’t really have to entertain them much but I don’t want them just sitting around the house…

Summer Colors {Photography}
Right now I’m obsessed with colors. I’m talking about bright colors that scream summer. I think it’s the change of seasons but I really want to update my living room. Right now it’s done in browns with muted creams, greens and burgundies… Nice for fall and winter but for spring and summer not so much. Do you redecorate seasonally or do you decorate once and let it be?

Peacocks. In a Cemetery. Really? {This or That Thursday}
When Miss 15 told me that she’d gone with some friends to visit the peacocks at the Cape County Memorial Park, I was tad skeeved, slightly intrigued and a little bewildered. Peacocks. In a cemetery. Really? Yes, really. Also, I hope y’all are impressed with me right now considering my intense fear of birds. I don’t care how pretty they are, birds are scary, scary critters. And, as Miss 15 stated, “Those things sound like little old ladies crying out for help.” Side note, the historian in me had to find out why there are peacocks in the cemetery: A little over 30 years ago, when Ted and Mildred Strom…

Scavenger Hunt Sunday {Photography}
It feels so good to be participating in Scavenger Hunt Sunday again. I haven’t joined in since April. But this week I had some beautiful shots, thanks to a photo walk with my daughter and an impromptu day out with the hubs. Hope you enjoy looking at my finds for this week. 1. Rainbow I took this picture during my photo walk with Miss 18. The way the sun was bouncing off the steeple of the church had me mesmerized. Later, I saw the lens flare and the slightest hint of a rainbow. I hope it counts. 2. Fluffy Dandelions are fluffy, right? I took this picture of my daughter…

Not My Shoes {Shoe Style Saturday}
Have you ever been out and about and saw someone wearing the most fabulous pair of shoes and thought “Wow! I love those.”? That’s what happened to me the other day when Miss 18 and I were hanging out at the Cup N’ Cork. This lady walked into the coffee house with these beautiful sparkly shoes and I was all “Duuude, those are cute” to my daughter… You guys know I’m attracted to anything shiny. So I walked over to the lady and asked if I could take picture Weird, I know and, not only did she say “Yes” but she totally struck a pose for me. As much as…

My Last Day of Freedom {Family}
Today was the kids’ last day of school. Insert tears here. Today was also my last day of freedom. Insert wailing and moaning here. The kids will be with me every. Single. Day. For the next 3 months… Knowing I was dreading my impending loss of freedom, the hubs took today off and declared it “Day of Daenel”. We started the day with breakfast at our favorite diner, Hickory House Restaurant. That was our only plan, we decided to play the rest of our day by ear. So we hopped in the car and drove down to the Mississippi River. If you’re a regular reader, you know how much I…

Hanging with Miss 18 {This or That Thursday}
Earlier this week, Miss 18 and I decided to go on a photography walk in the historic section of Cape Girardeau. You can see my pictures by clicking on the bold words. We love it down there because of the old buildings, the views of the Mississippi River and the fabulous antique shops that line the streets… Right now, though, my favorite place is the Cup N’ Cork, a hip coffee house that also serves wine. I’d visited the Cup N’ Cork earlier with a friend of mine and enjoyed the ambiance, I thought Miss 18 would enjoy it too. I also thought it’d be a nice “thank you” for…

I Received a Visit from the Fairy Hobmother
The hubs likes to say that I carry my own special brand of crazy in a bucket. And that crazy includes a whole lot of skepticism. So when I received an email from the Fairy Hobmother stating that he would like to give me a $50 Amazon Gift Voucher because I “deserved something special” in my inbox, my spidey senses immediately started tingling. Being the good librarian that I am, I used my impeccable research skills to find out about this “Fairy Hobmother” and try to figure out the catch… It seems the Fairy Hobmother dispenses gifts to bloggers in exchange for them mentioning him and linking to his business,…

My Last Week of Freedom {Family}
This is my last week of freedom. On Friday those people will be out of school for the entire summer. I’ve enjoyed my time alone… freedom to wander about… enjoy coffee with friends… hang with the hubs on his days off… sit in the grass and soak up the sun… Now that time will be interrupted by “Mom, I’m bored!” or “Mom, I’m hungry!” So I’ll spend my last week of freedom just being in the moment and trying not to think about them. How will you spend your last week of freedom?

Happy Mother’s Day
One of my mother’s favorite sayings is “Give me my flowers while I’m still living.” Meaning, don’t celebrate me and talk about how much you love me after I’m gone, tell me now while I can appreciate it. I used to think that was such a hard thing to say until my father passed away a few years ago and I wrote a post about how much I loved him and would miss him. Seriously, it’s so much easier to tell people you love them while they’re still with you and it’s better for the soul. So, Mom, here are your flowers… My sisters and I were raised in church. In…
