Children are a Heritage

A few weeks ago, a friend called to tell me that he and his wife are expecting their first son in early spring. I couldn’t have been more thrilled for them. I immediately started thinking about what I could get to help welcome their little one into the world and it occurred to me that the greatest gift that I could give is one that comes from the heart ~ a handmade baby blanket.

The blanket will be made of 3 solid colors {dark brown, tan and baby blue} and blue, dark brown and tan multicolored granny squares. I’m trying to decide whether or not to use a contrasting yarn to stitch the squares together. I kind of like the idea of using a cream but I haven’t decided just yet. This is the first time that I’m using granny squares to make a blanket, so I’m being ambitiously creative.

I’m also reading The Midwife’s Confession by Diane Chamberlain. This is one of the books on my list of 12 that I’d planned to read this year {you can see my list by clicking here}. I’m trying to branch out and read a wider variety of books. I haven’t formed an opinion of the book yet, I really just started it but I’ll write a review once I’m finished.
