As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.
How was your weekend? We spent ours preparing for Hurricane Ida. We live in the central part of Louisiana, so the heavier parts of the storm missed us, but our friends in the southern parts have sustained substantial damage. Please keep them lifted up in your prayers.
About the Fab Forties
The Fab Forties is a group of style bloggers from around the globe who come together once a month to share their common love of fashion. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger, who is also in her forties, to join us. The group’s goal is to take on a style trend and show how we each interpret and incorporate it into our lives. Four different ladies, four different styles, you’re sure to find something that inspires you.
The Theme
This month’s theme is Candy Crush, and was suggested by Mirielle.
MY LOOK
Picking an outfit for this month’s theme was not hard at all. I knew immediately that I was going to wear my Split Midi Dress from Kantha Bae. What was a hard decision was picking a color from all the choices in their online shop. I tend to stick to neutrals and shy away from silks, but this dress is a colorful silk. So far out of my comfort zone. And it wears like a crop top with the exposed midsection. Still. With all of those things going against it, I wanted this piece. Why? Because it’s everything I don’t have.
Not gonna lie though, wearing silk in the Louisiana heat was brutal, but once it cools down a bit… Y’all, this split midi dress is gonna be everything. And then when it gets cold? Imagine it over a chunky turtle neck with dark wash jeans and boots. Or a black sweater dress.
LAST THOUGHTS
Really, there’s so much potential with this piece. And the colors, while out of my comfort zone, are bold and fun, yet, incredibly neutral.

This dress {or is it a dress?} is just plain fun! I love the staggering colors of the bracelet tiles and the purple Fitbit. And for those who wonder what shoes to wear with so much color, mustard is a neutral – just take a look at Mirielle’s sandals. Everything flows.
Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge – Rediscover your edge
So much color and texture! Shelbee reminds me of those cool girls that they photograph for street style photo stories. Love it.
Suzy, The Grey Brunette – Happily giving the finger to ageism!
I love how Suzy was a total style rebel and chose individual pieces to put together and then book ended everything with her glasses and pumps. Everything about this screams creative fun!
