    If This Is Winter, I’ll Take It

    13 March 2012 / 7 Comments

    It has been crazy beautiful here in Missouri. Really, if this is what winter is like down in the south, I’ll take it. What’s like in your neck of the woods?

    MapMyFITNESS Quaker Challenge Update

    12 March 2012 / 1 Comment

    Do you remember my wake up call photo? If not, go here and take a peek. What a difference two weeks can make! Here’s this week’s photo: I’m down 2 lbs and 2 inches around the waist. I’ve also worked out twice a day for 8 out of the 14 days. The last few days I’ve had some sort of weird bug that will not go away. But I’m feeling better so I’m ready to get back into the swing of things. How are you doing with your health goals?

    Scavenger Hunt Sunday

    11 March 2012 / 8 Comments

    Hi everyone! Hope you had a great weekend. Mine was beyond wonderful. My twin sister and I celebrated our 39th birthday {you can read the crazy story surrounding our birth by going here} and the hubs and I celebrated our 17th anniversary. Longest starter marriage. Ever. But, most importantly, the hubs was baptized today! 1. Water From the archives. There’s something about black and white photos of rain that bring me such a feeling of peace. 2. Light This was taken for the March Photo~A~Day Challenge. I like the way the light from my lamp casts a subtle glow over my night stand. 3. Chocolate I love Cadbury Creme Eggs.…

    The Dramatic Story of Our Birth {Repost}

    10 March 2012 / 3 Comments

    Thirty~nine years ago today, my sister and I made our great escape… My sister and I have always known the dramatic story of our birth.  Mom used it as a way to highlight my our need for attention since birth.  And as I tell you the story, you’ll understand that we come by our dramatics honestly.  Thank you, Mom and Dad… It was about 5 AM on a Saturday morning in 1973 when  my dad went racing down the streets of Washington, D.C. in his little Datsun.  With dual horns blaring and my mother tensing up in labor, my dad violated every traffic law on the books.  Really, what do…

    HIV/AIDs: Know Your Status {Rock the Red Pump}

    9 March 2012 / 2 Comments

    “Every 47 minutes a woman in the U.S. tests positive for HIV.“ How’s that for a startling statistic? That woman is someone’s mother, daughter, sister, friend… And this is why I, along with thousands of other bloggers, have joined with The Red Pump Project to Rock the Red Pump. The goal of The Rock the Red Pump Campaign is raise awareness about women and girls who are living with HIV/AIDs. HIV/AIDs disproportionately affects minority women in the U.S. In fact, HIV is the leading cause of death for Black women aged 25~34 years old. The only diseases causing more deaths in women are cancer and heart disease. Isn’t that mind blowing?…

    Learning to Let Go

    7 March 2012 / 3 Comments

    This week I’m facing probably one of the biggest challenges that I’ll face as a parent, letting my child grow up and make her own decisions. I knew this time would come but a part of me kept thinking I could push it off. That I could keep her (and the rest of them) with me forever. You know, only letting them wander so far and then reeling them back in… Life doesn’t work that way. No matter how much you want to keep your children home and safe, at some point they have to go out and make their own way. And their own mistakes. The only thing you…

    Veggie Lasagna {Meatless Monday}

    6 March 2012 / 2 Comments

    It’s been a long time since I’ve posted about Meatless Monday, I guess because we’ve mostly been eating soups on those days but last night was totally different. I made a Veggie Lasagna that was to die for… OK, truth, the girls and I loved it, the guys not so much. So while it may not be a total guy pleaser, I think it’s well worth trying. Ingredients 4 Zucchini (sliced) 1 Green Pepper (diced) 1 Red Onion (diced) 1 Package Frozen Spinach (defrosted) Mushrooms (sliced) Garlic Powder Salt & Pepper 1 Package lasagna noodles 2 (15 oz) Ricotta Cheese 1 Package Mozzarella Cheese 3 Eggs 1 (26 oz) can…

    CLOSED Yoplait Lactose Free Yogurt {Giveaway}

    6 March 2012 / 5 Comments

    And the winner is Lisa from It Keeps Getting Better! Congratulations, Lisa! When I was a little girl, we could barely keep milk in the house. I was a milk~a~holic. Then I hit my thirties and something awful happened. I suddenly became lactose intolerant. Can you imagine the heartbreak that I felt upon this discovery? Apparently, I’m not the only one. There are millions of people who can’t tolerate lactose, and when people can’t tolerate stuff they avoid it. Not good. But that has recently changed… I’d like to thank the people at Yoplait for thinking about all of us lactose intolerant people who still love dairy but hate the…

    Shock {Nails to the Yeah}

    5 March 2012 / 2 Comments

    OK, y’all, I may need you to save me from myself! Seriously, look at those traffic cone orange nails. I know I said that I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try new shades but, dang, this is like running past the caution tape and falling off the cliff. I’ma have to reign it in… The color is called “Shock” by L.A. Colors and it is quite the shock. Every time I looked at my hands I was startled. As much as I hate the color. And, yes, I hate the color, the nail polish itself is probably one of the best polishes I’ve used in forever.…

    Scavenger Hunt Sunday

    4 March 2012 / 19 Comments

    This week’s Scavenger Hunt Photos were literally taken at the last minute. Well, all of them except for the first one. I don’t know why I was slacking but I was but, lemme tell ya, when you feel the pressure it makes it kinda fun and you get all kinds of creative… 1. Routine Not really a part of my routine but every now and then I have to bust out the ol’ iron and ironing board to keep the hubs happy and neat. 2. Music My teens seem to spend an awful lot of time with those thingies in the ears. I suspect they listen to their music to…
