As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Hey, y’all, hey! How was your weekend? Mine was a nice, quiet lead-in to my vacation week. No lie, I’m soooo looking forward to this week off. I need the time. I feel like I’ve been on edge for the last few months: my patience has been short and my emotions simmering… I really need this time to decompress. And my first act of self-care was to sleep in this morning. Normally, I get up at between 5:15 and 5:30 am every morning, this morning, I woke up at my normal time and said “Nope, not today” and promptly fell back to sleep. At 7:15, I woke up with a start because of Bleu and Lola, but, y’all, they slept in too. I love my girls so much.

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Welcome to Style Imitating Art. Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Terri {Meadow Tree Style}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10 PM Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s work of art was chosen by Salazar.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Here’s what Salazar wrote about her inspiration pick:

…the paper collages (or more exactly, decoupages) of 18th century artist Mary Delany. It amazes me how realistic they are, considering they’re not paintings, and especially since Mrs. Delany didn’t start working on them until she was 72!
Since these are all the same style – realistic flowers on black background – I decided not to pick a specific piece, but rather the participants can choose whichever piece they want to interpret. I’m attaching here as an example, and you can see more of them here and here.

MY OUTFIT

When I first saw Salazar’s inspiration piece, I knew I wanted to focus on the textures more than the colors. From my tweed textured leather earrings to my embroidered leather Mary Janes, that’s what I did.

WHERE DID I WEAR IT

This dress, along with the mid-length cardigan, are one of my favorite looks for casual Summer days at work. The material is lightweight, which is great for walking out into the intense Louisiana heat, while the cardigan provides a much needed layer for the frigid AC.

LAST THOUGHTS

Mustard and rust are neutrals. While I chose to pair them together and leave it at that, I could easily have added in teal accessories or, instead of brown or black shoes, I could’ve opted for a pair in the green or purple families.
