As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Welcome to Style Imitating Art. I hope your visit means you’re planning to join us, because we’d definitely love to have you…

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

This week’s image was chosen by by Kim of Fierce Fashion Blog.

Garden Under Snow by Paul Gaugin

Kim chose this image because she likes “…like the serenity of the colors and even though it’s a still scene, there’s a lot of movement.” I see blues, browns, and creams, and even hints of green, rust, and yellow. What do you see? How about in the texture? What fabrics do you think can represent the movement in the image? Tweed, perhaps?

Happy Monday. Hope you had a good and healthy weekend. Our weekend was uneventful, which is what we want. Especially now.

I’ve had this blouse in my closet since we moved to Louisiana, so about two years, and I think I’ve worn it twice. I’m not sure why. It’s really cute. Cute enough that I actually bought 3 versions of it. And it’s pretty comfortable. I also like that I could easily pair this with a blazer {if I were so inclined} or a cardigan {which I’m almost always inclined}. The jeans are super comfortable because they’re Laurie Felt and she knows her jeans. The flats are just plain cute. Not comfortable. Not uncomfortable. Just cute. Make sense?

Overall, I think this outfit is a good representation of the inspiration piece from the stripes to the colors to the textures. What do you think?

Make sure you stop by and visit my co-hosts at 14 Shades of Grey, and Fierce Fashion Blog. You’ll definitely want to see their interpretations as well.

Next week’s inspiration piece will be posted on Monday, 9 November. Send a picture of your Style Imitating Art inspired outfit to Kim at by Tuesday, 17 November and she’ll share the submissions on her blog on Wednesday, 18 November.

You don’t have to have a blog to join, you can share your images on Instagram as well! Just tag Kim, Salazar, and me or use the hashtag #StyleImitatingArt so we know you’re there. We’d love to see how you interpret the inspiration piece.
