Style Imitating Art: Crocheted Leaves by Susanna Bauer
As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.
THE CURATOR
This week’s image is curated by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}. Salazar is “…a stagnating packet of crisps {context} trying to change by adding more colors to my wardrobe and my life.”
INSPIRATION ART WORK
Salazar chose this image because she thought they’d “…make for a fun, seasonally appropriate inspiration.” You can see more of Susanna Bauer’s work here and here.
MY LOOK
Hey, y’all, hey. How are things in your neck of the woods? The weather broke here and, y’all, it has been cold. We actually had to wear coats because it was in the fifties on Thursday. I took these pictures Saturday afternoon and it was still in the fifties, but – oddly – not quite as cold {no wind}, but chilly. If you look carefully, you can see me shivering. LOL
Anyway, I know you’re looking at this sweatshirt and thinking, ummmm, Daenel, that in no way matches the inspiration art. But it does, Blanche, it does! The embroidered leaves mimic the crocheted leaves in the inspiration piece and the fact that I’m wearing a sweatshirt, which is seasonally appropriate.
When I first saw this sweatshirt, I was attracted to, well, everything: the embroidery, the unusual angle of the ties, the double hood, the thumb holes, the zipper… And, of course, the fit.
