As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.

Welcome to Style Imitating Art. How are things in your area? I woke up this morning to snow and ice. I’m not happy. I was not made for cold weather. I like sweater weather, not parka weather. This is unbearable. Yes, I know it’s winter, but I can’t handle it.

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Terri {Meadow Tree Style}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10 PM Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

This week’s image was chosen by Terri because she has “… just always loved this portrait. It’s very different than any other portrait that Copley, who was the leading portrait artist at the time produced. Rather than the decked out John Hancock or Samuel Adams, Paul Revere is portrayed at what he did best, being a premier silversmith; a working man who was at the top of his trade. As another crafts-person, I could relate…”

You can find out more information about Paul Revere by John Singleton Copley here.

Send a picture of your Style Imitating Art inspired outfit to me at by Tuesday, 23 February and she’ll share the submissions on her blog on Wednesday, 24 February.

You don’t have to have a blog to join, you can share your images on Instagram as well! Just tag Salazar, Terri, and me or use the hashtags #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so we know you’re there. We’d love to see how you interpret the inspiration piece.

Now go play in your closet,
