ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.

This week’s image is hosted by Kim from Fierce Fashion Blog. Kim is a fifty something style blogger with an eye for color and texture. Please join us in welcoming her.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Still Life with Blue Enamel Coffeepot Earthenware and Fruit by Vincent van Gogh

Still Life with Blue Enamel Coffeepot Earthenware and Fruit by Vincent van Gogh {Public Domain}

Kim chose this piece by Van Gogh because it’s National Fruit and Vegetable month, so she picked an image that represented the month. How fun is this painting? So much opportunity for colors and prints, don’t you think?

What will you wear? I can’t wait to see.

MY LOOK

I think this picture by van Gogh may be one of my favorite images, as it gave me a chance to wear one of my favorite tops {I’ve worn it before with shorts}. In fact, I like this top so much that I have it in white {You can see it here. I thought it’d made an appearance on the blog, but I was wrong. I must fix that}. I really want to get another color… Perhaps a magenta or a red?

I really like the embroidery. And it’s real embroidery, not printed. Call me weird, but I’m a stickler for that. When I buy embroidered clothing, I want to see the needlework.

Of course, you’ve seen these jeans before… They’re by my favorite jean designer, Laurie Felt. I cannot stress enough how crazy comfortable these jeans are. I mean, really, look at me — I’m sitting cross legged on the ground and I’m comfortable. And the wash is just perfect for dressing up or dressing down.

If you’ve been reading my blog for any time, you know that I’ve been searching for a pair of clogs. I’ve bought several pairs, but they weren’t quite right. Until I found these pair from Mia. I like clogs because they can be worn with dresses, shorts, and pants. They can also be dressed up or down. I opted for the wine color because I thought they were the most neutral color pop.  If you decide to get a pair, make sure you size up. I purchased my exact size and they’re a bit snug in the toe box. I’m thinking about purchasing a shoe stretcher to get another 1/2 inch out of the leather. And, since they’re real leather, I know they’ll stretch. My next pair will probably be these or these.

I think this may have be the most literal I’ve ever been with one of my Style Imitating Art interpretations. From the colors to the florals to the textures. I really had fun with this challenge…

Oh, and that red lipstick? Yeah, I think I’m gonna be wearing that a lot this summer.

Kim suggested that I share one of my coffee photos to go with the coffee theme of the picture. Of course, I had to oblige – you can see it here. I try to share a cup of coffee and a kind word on Instagram every morning, I hope you’ll join me. You don’t have to be a coffee drinker – just snap a little picture and say a few words to encourage people and help them get their day started.

Now go play in your closet,
