ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Y’all, I wish I could show you this whole poster but I can’t because of copyright, buuuut you can see the whole thing here. And, trust me, it’s worth the visit. I’ll wait. Now that you’re back, cute, huh?

Salazar picked this poster because she found it “…hilarious and I’ve been a little obsessed with the colors (green and brown) lately.” It’s funny that she wrote that because I’ve been gravitating towards “nature colors” as well. Anyway, I can’t wait to share my interpretation. I already have a few ideas…

MY OUTFIT

I’ve come to the conclusion that having more than one crisis at a time is a lot… This past week, our state was battered by Hurricane Laura. Fortunately, our home is still standing and we only suffered minor inconveniences – downed power lines, tattered siding, and snapped limbs. We were without power and internet for a little over four days, some folks are still without either. Can you imagine? In this Louisiana heat. I do want to give a shout out to the line workers who came in from neighboring states to assist our power companies. They’ve been amazing. Mostly, though, I’m thankful to Him for His grace and mercy…

With Louisiana storms comes a lot of bugs. I’ve been bitten so many times while out running, that I feel like I have “Snack” stamped across my forehead. It’s awful, y’all. But it did make this week’s inspiration piece so much more appropriate…

Earrings – Nickel and Suede | Camo Tee – Similar | Step Hem Jeans – Similar | Clogs – Exact

When I was a kid, I love love loved neon colors. In fact, I loved them so much that I sent my great grandmother a pack of neon colored socks {yellow, lime, pink, and orange}. When my mom called to verify that she’d received them – she was nervous – Big Momma {that’s what we called her} was cracking up. She could not believe I’d saved my money to buy her socks. My mom couldn’t believe she was appreciative of them or that she planned to wear them. Anyway, ever since I’ve always had something bright and bold in my closet. Just a little nod to Big Momma. These citron earrings and my neon sweater are those reminders.

Neon is one of those colors that I think goes with anything: prints, solids, brights, pastels, etc. If you don’t believe me, check out my Pinterest board here. But my hands down all time favorite match up is citron with camo. It’s kinda like hunter chic but a little more classy. Like that description?

If you’d like to see a picture of a teenage me, come back tomorrow when the Ageless Style ladies and I share our high school style.

Can you guess which celebrity inspired my high school wardrobe? Leave a comment below with your guess and then tell me who inspired you.
