Reading the Bible in 90 Days: What I Learned
Around November 2010, my mom (an evangelist), and I were talking about bibles and the various translations and their readability, when she told me that she had one that she wanted to send me to read. Inwardly I groaned. Growing up, my mom’s not~so~subtle questioning of my salvation had always been a sore spot with me. In fact, I’d say that it directly led to my rebellious phase. So when the Bible arrived, I left it in the mailing envelope, on the corner of the dining room table, touching it only to move it from place to place so the family could eat our meals… Around the end of December,…

Blogging Through The Gospels: Mark 3:35
SCRIPTURE Mark 3:35 Anyone who does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother. OBSERVATION Jesus is stating that through our faith in Him, everyone who follows Him and does as the Word of God instructs is His family and also ours by virtue of us being children of God. APPLICATION Sometimes when I’m having a little pity party, I complain to the hubs that I’m lonely because I don’t any friends or family around. And he points out all the connections I’ve made through my blog, Facebook and Twitter and how supportive many of my online friends and family have been when I’ve needed them. This verse is…

Religious Civility, Where Has It Gone?
It’s been a couple of days since Resurrection Sunday (Easter to some) and I’m finally in a place where I can write this post without getting teary~eyed… On Sunday morning, I woke up and checked up on all my people like I normally do. I sent out “Happy Resurrection Sunday” messages to a few friends and family and then went on about my day. Later that afternoon, I checked a couple of my usual online haunts (Facebook, Friendfeed and Twitter) to see what people were up to and was shocked at the level of meanness that people were showing towards those who observe Easter/Resurrection Sunday. Out of respect and love…

No Greater Love
John 3:16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 15:13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. As parents, we’re conditioned to say that we would sacrifice everything for our children, even our own lives. But would you sacrifice your life for a friend? For a complete stranger? Would you, knowing that your friend, was guilty of a crime, go before the judge and say “Your Honor, here I am, I’ll take my friend’s punishment”? That’s what Jesus did for…

Blogging Through The Gospels: Matthew 14
SCRIPTURE Matthew 14:13~14 13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. OBSERVATION Jesus had just learned of the death of John the Baptist and was retreating to privately mourn the loss of His cousin. But the crowds followed Him and, He understanding that their needs were greater than His sorrow, had mercy on them. APPLICATION As a mother, I know what it’s like to set aside my need for solitude and a…

Women of Faith Wednesday: It’s All in My Bag
Today’s Women of Faith Wednesday question is: “What’s in Your Purse and Why?” I’m embarrassed to answer that question. Hahaha Usually I carry bags big enough to tote a toddler. Tonight I happened to have switched to my “small” bag. Women always say they can’t switch bags because they always forget something in the original bag. Now there’s an art to switching bags (I’ll get to the what’s inside in just a minute)… If you follow my directions, you can switch bags every day and never forget anything again! Here’s the trick ~ you know all those little cosmetic cases you get when you purchase a bag? You use those…

Book Review: Friendship for Grown~Ups: What I Missed & Learned Along the Way by Lisa Whelchel
Like many women my age, I grew up envying the relationships between Blair, Jo, Natalie and Tootie on The Facts of Life. I thought the relationships between the girls epitomized everything that a friendship between girls should be ~ loving, supportive and genuine. In my child’s mind, I didn’t realize that the friendships were fictional. Lisa Whelchel, who played Blair, writes: “I think there is a certain irony in the fact that the television show I was on was all about female friendships, and yet in real life I had very little experience with close relationships.” This book is her exploration of what impeded her ability to develop close relationships…

Women of Faith Wednesday: Girl, You are Loved
Today’s Women of Faith Wednesday question is “If you could go back in time and tell your teenage self one thing, what would you say?” Hmmm….there are so many things that my teenaged self needed to hear. Psalms 37:4 (NIV) says: “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Had I found the truth of that verse, I would have saved myself so much heartbreak and rejection. The biggest desire of my teenaged heart was to be truly and completely loved and valued. Not the boyfriend~girlfriend kind of love but that love that comes from having a family that instills in you a sense of…
