    52 Week Project 2025: Weeks 5-8

I didn’t really have a theme in mind when I started this project, I’d just planned to take photos when I got a chance and share my weekly fave. However, this month started with me processing an image of Bleu in black and white and thinking, hey, why not continue the black and white processing through the rest of the month? Black and white images have always been some of my favorites because they allow you to project your emotion onto the image depending upon your mood, the clarity of the image, the shadows and lights. Week 5 I took this snap of Bleu while she was sitting in one…

    52 Week Project 2025: Weeks 1-4

I wasn’t sure if I was going to attempt a 52 week project this year. I’ve started and failed to complete one each year because I’ve been too ambitious {yes, that is possible}. Where I messed us was trying to shoot daily. I simply can’t do that. So I’ve decided to shoot once a week. That’s much more doable. There’s no pressure, ya know? If I don’t shoot one day, I have six more days to get it in. I can handle this. I’m not using any prompts, I’m just taking pictures of what I see and going from there. Again, no pressure. Here are the images from the first…

Where Bloggers Live: The Best Gifts I’ve Ever Received

When I was in my early teens, my best friend, Alisa, introduced me to Danielle Steel. Danielle Steel is an American author whose books are characterized by young women with traumatic childhoods who marry wealthy, much older men. Initially, I was caught up in the romance of the stories… To my thirteen-year-old mind, wealth and glamour went hand in hand with love and romance. Never mind that these women were marrying men who were old enough to be their fathers. That being said, one story stuck with me and would have a significant influence on me. Message from Nam told the story of Paxton Andrews, a female war correspondent who…

    13|52: Circles

I’m still a bit behind because, well, life. So, pardon me while I play catch up… Magnolias are my favorite flowers. There’s something mysterious and sensual about them. PHOTO INFO Nikon D850, 50mm 1/8000 | f/1.8 | ISO 100 THE STORY In addition to serving at the director of library services, I also take photos for the college where I work. Our main campus consists of two locations: the admin building and the manufacturing training center (MTC). This past week, we had a high school welding competition at the MTC, so I walked over to take some pictures of the students. On my way, I saw this guy staring at…

    11|52: Photographer’s Choice

I’m a bit behind because, well, life. So, pardon me while I play catch up… There’s something about low light photography, sparks, and smoke, am I right? PHOTO INFO Nikon D850, 50mm Image details were lost. THE STORY When I first started taking pictures of the welders, I was intimidated – the light was low, there were sparks flying everywhere, and the students were incredibly nervous having me around {concerned for my safety}. Over the years, I’ve become more adept at quickly and safely getting the shot. And the students have gotten used to me floating around… ABOUT THE 52 WEEK PROJECT I get ambitious at the beginning of every…

    10|52: Details

I turned 51 on 10 March and, y’all, I still look around for the adult in the room and am gobsmacked when I realize I’m the freaking adult. PHOTO INFO Nikon D850, 50mm 1/20 | f/1.8 | ISO 1600 THE STORY I usually try to get in front of the lens on my birthday, you know, for a birthday picture, but I wasn’t feeling it this year. I’d been dealing with a bout of food poisoning and wasn’t feeling or looking my best. But you only turn 51 once. Since the prompt was detail, I decided to get a close up {or, at least, as close as I dared} shot…

    9|52: Re-Edit an Old Image

ORIGINAL EDIT When I originally edited this image, I wanted to keep with the boho feel of the whole shoot, which you can see starting here on Instagram. I kept the tones earthy and just a little on the gritty side, to fit the location {which was beautifully rustic and lush}. RE-EDIT I converted the image to a sepia tone and lifted the shadows and contrast to match the vintage feel of the cabin. It still captures the boho vibe that my friend wanted when I originally shot the image, there’s just a little bit more of a vintagey feel to it. PHOTO INFO Nikon D850 1/1250 | f/1.8 |…

    Project 365: Week 3

Yup, I’m late this week. No real reason. Laziness. I guess. But I’m still snapping, so there’s that. 015 It weirds me out when she sleeps with her eyes open. 016 “A squirrel is just a rat with a cuter outfit!” Sarah Jessica Parker 017 The plaque reads: “Masonic Building Built c.1927 Has been placed on the NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORICAL PLACES By the United States Department of the Interior” I have a thing for abandoned buildings. This one is located in downtown Alexandria, LA. 018 Filler pic of a snoring pup because I didn’t shoot anything today. 019 I’m a digger of murals. They tell so much about the…

    Project 365: Week 2

I can’t believe we’re in week 2 and I haven’t missed a day yet. Not gonna lie, finding inspiration while in quarantine was incredibly hard. Now that I’m out and can get around, I’m hoping to take a few more creative shots. 008 My girls: Lola and Bleu. 009 Because I need something for today… 010 When the kids were little, we used to have Cupcake Day. We would pick random days to go out for gourmet cupcakes. Or, sometimes if they had a bad day, they’d say “Mom, I need Cupcake Day.” Now that they’re all grown and out of the house, we still have Cupcake Day. It’s a…
