As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.
This is just a quick post to share that I’ll be participating in a 10×10 Style Challenge for the next 10 days. Let’s hope this works, because I’m definitely a mood dresser and this does not allow for that type of flexibility at all.
ABOUT THE 10×10 STYLE CHALLENGE
The 10×10 Style Challenge was started by Style Bee in 2015, with the goal of encouraging herself to get creative with her clothes during a 30 Day Shopping Fast. The idea is that you create a mini capsule closet of 10 items that you rework into new looks for 10 days.
The rules are fairly simple:
- Pick any 10 items from your current closet
- Style those items into 10 different looks
- Use any 10 days to do it
- Have fun and don’t take it too seriously
I found out about this challenge through the Zuri Appreciation Facebook group and was immediately intrigued. I have a lot of clothes and probably only wear a handful of them. Not because I don’t like them but because I either want to wear them all or I don’t want to wear any of them. I take this to mean that I need to learn to appreciate what I have and get rid of what I don’t wear. Furthermore, I desperately want to lean into creating a sustainable wardrobe that works for me and my lifestyle.
This challenge, hosted by @feliciafollumfairtradefashion, begins 1 November and ends on 10 November. If you’d like to join in, use the following hashtags: #10x10CapsuleWithFF and #10x10CapsuleChallenge. Felicia also provided prompts for each day of the challenge:
- Who are you?
- Routine or Habit
- A Belief or Value
- A Passion
- Clothing budget
- Gratitude
- Favorite accessory
- Goal
- Will you join us for Dressember?
- What have you learned this month?
I’m sharing the items I chose below, with an explanation for why I chose each item.
THE JACKETS
Denim Jacket – versatile and can be dressed up or down.
Black cardigan – warmth and as another third piece.
THE TOPS
Black V neck top – versatile basic
Brown and white bodysuits – I went back and forth on these because they’re really the same pieces, just different colors. I have a feeling I’m going to regret picking both of these pieces instead one bodysuit and another top.
BOTTOMS
Trouser jeans – can be dressed up or down
Black skinny pants – can be dressed up or down or layered like leggings
DRESSES
Kantha Bae dress – can be worn as a sundress or as a skirt
Floral dress – can be worn as a dress or a tunic
Zuri dress – can be worn as a dress, tunic, or duster
WHAT I DIDN’T CHOOSE
When doing my research {because that’s what I do} for this challenge, I saw that some people include shoes as part of their clothing selection. That was just a little bit too restrictive for me. I’m also not including outerwear because, well, that’s not something I’m going to keep on.
