Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
1. A New York court ruled that a bus driver who failed a random drug test can keep her job. Did I mention that this bus driver is a school bus driver? The firing was determined to be “too severe for a 10 year employee”. There are so many words tumbling around in my head right now… Students are kicked off sports teams, people go to jail for possession but someone who is driving around the streets in a big ol’ bus full of students cannot be fired for failing a drug test? The school district had argued that it had adopted a zero~tolerance policy for positive drug tests and…

Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
1. As many of you know, I have a twin sister and I also have a set of twins, so I read the story about the Belgian twins who chose to end their lives with the assistance of a doctor with a mix of sadness and whoa that’s intense. Usually, when people choose euthanasia it’s because they’re terminally ill and can no longer bear the pain. This was not the case with these twin brothers. Both were deaf and had learned that they were going blind; faced with the knowledge that they would no longer be able to hear or see each other, they chose to end their lives. I…

Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
1. Have you ever watched TLC’s “My Strange Addiction”? I quit watching after I saw a lady gobble down some of her husband’s ashes. Kid you not. Anyway, when the show returns on 13 February, they’ll be profiling a woman who eats her cat’s hair. Her favorite way to enjoy the delicacy? Quick and easy, she licks it directly off the cat. Eww eww ewwwwww and that’s not just because cats freak me out either. That show just makes me look at people in a whole new light. And for the record, my weirdest eating habit is that I like to eat Kit Kat bars in a very methodical fashion:…

Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
1. Did you hear about the Houston waiter who refused to serve a family because they asked to be moved away from a family who had a child with Down syndrome? The father reportedly said “Special needs children need to be special somewhere else.” It takes a special kind of idiot to be that insensitive towards a child, any child. The waiter overheard the comment and told the customer that he would be unable to serve them. Fist bump for the waiter because he lost a tip on that one (I’m guessing the family weren’t big tippers though just from the butt headedness displayed, so he may not have lost…

Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
1. Soon after the kids started taking health and sex ed courses, we made a list of words that were banned from the house; at the top of that list was the word “moist”. shudder Over the years, the word has made it’s way into conversation, most notably at Thanksgiving dinner when my parents, sister, and her family were all gathered around the table. It was the most awkwardly funny experience ever. Anyway, I led with that so you can understand why I am truly skeeved by the thought of moisturizing jeans. ewww Wrangler has solved a problem I didn’t even know we had: we need a spa like experience in our…

Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
1. It’s no secret that I absolutely positively hate birds and cats. Birds because they fly over head and are, um, inconsiderate. And cats because of that jumping thing they do. Well, I’ve found out that I’m in good company. Apparently Zach Randolph of the Grizzlies hates cats too. Fist bump, dude, they are some scary critters. He doesn’t like the scratching, I don’t like the jumping. It’s like we were separated at birth. 2. I know art is subjective buuuut…. I think this is stupid. A performance artist in China stripped down to his skivvies, hung three roasted chickens across a plank that was tied to his back and…

Happy Birthday, Miss 16 {In the Family Room}
Dear Miss 16, Girl, you have been a source of joy and laughter since the day you surprised us at the doctor’s office. Nothing like going to the doctor’s for a tubal ligation and finding out that you’re pregnant… We should have known then that we were going to be in for a ride. I remember when you used to crawl up in my lap, curl your fingers around my blouse and go to sleep. I’d sit there for hours, stroking your hair and wishing you’d get up so I could get something anything done. Then one day it all stopped. You stopped sitting in my lap, you stopped being…

Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
Hi, if you’re a regular reader you know that on Fridays I write a little post that I like to call “Things That Leave Me Scratchin’ My Head”. It’s all about the crazy stuff that I’ve read on the web or heard about on TV during the week. After writing that post for a year, I’ve learned one thing: there is a never ending stream of bizarre among the human race. And I love us for that. With the new year I’ve decided to do a little revamping of these posts. The only things I’ve changed are the title and the picture. I like to think of these posts as…

Chicken Noodle Soup with Cheddar Drop Biscuits {On the Table}
Have you ever roasted two whole chickens because your family swore up and down they were starving and then they only ate like half of one so you’re left with all of this chicken and you’re thinking what do I do with this? That’s what happened to me last week. I had one and a half delicious fresh roasted chickens sitting in my fridge; I didn’t want to toss it and I wasn’t in the mood for more roasted chicken. So I started thinking and thinking and thinking and it hit me: Chicken Noodle Soup. And a side of Cheddar Drop Biscuits. My family was all kinds of excited and…

Things That Leave Me Scratchin’ My Head {Coffee Talk}
Wow! Y’all, this is the last Friday of 2012. Is that crazy or what? I just want to take this time to thank all of you for hanging in there with me for the past year. I enjoy reading your comments on my blog, talking with you on Facebook, and sharing our lives on Instagram. I’ve celebrated with some of you as you’ve added to your families and I’ve cried with others of you as you’ve lost loved ones. You’ve wished me well with all the changes in my life and laughed with me when I’ve had moments of silly. We’ve been through a lot this year and I thank…
