Advice for Miss 17 Upon Her Graduation
For 17 years, you’ve listened to my “Dos” and “Don’ts”. You’ve shrugged me off at times and, at others, you’ve nodded and agreed. I’ve shared my struggles of single motherhood with you. Walking miles in the hot Louisiana sun because I didn’t have a car or the money for a taxi, just to get you from the babysitter’s house. We’ve grown from a team of two to a family of seven. You must of have known that Dad was the man for us, you loved him from the start. So much has happened in the seventeen years that we’ve shared this journey together… A few days ago, I…

Shoe Style Saturday
I like trendy things but as a mother of four teenagers who are always eating, I don’t have the money nor the inclination to spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of thong sandals. So I was happy when I saw these little bronze cuties as Dollar General the other day. They cost $4!!!! They may not last me for years like some of my other shoes, heck, they may not even last me the summer but they’re cute and comfortable and I’m going to enjoy wearing them with my peasant skirts for as long as I can. What trend would you like to try this summer? To participate in…

Biggest Loser Pound for Pound Challenge
Trying. To. Pull. Up. My. Jeans. And it just ain’t happening... I’m finally too big to fit in my “fat jeans”. Yesterday, I had to pull out 5 pairs of jeans before I found a pair that fit comfortably enough that I could sit through an 8 hour shift at the library. I’ve written about my struggles with my weight before on this blog, so it’s no secret that I’m about twenty pounds overweight. Seriously, I weigh more now than I did when I was pregnant with my twins. I really need to do something and stick to it. I’ve tried other weight loss tricks strategies programs before but I…

Switched at Birth: What Would You Do?
Did you watch Switched at Birth? The show premiered Monday night on ABC Family. Seriously, ABC Family has been airing some pretty decent shows. I hope this show finds the same success as The Secret Life of the American Teenager because this show has real potential. It stars D.W. Moffett and Lea Thompson as John and Kathryn Kennish who find out that their daughter was switched at birth with the daughter of Regina Vasquez, played by Constance Marie. The first episode centered around the families getting to know each other and the girls trying to find their place within their new families. At several points, the Kennishes push the boundaries and occasionally…

There Shall be No More Weeping…
Revelation 21:4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. I apologize for not posting this sooner but I’m with family and friends who have gathered to say “good bye” to my aunt, Sylvia, who lost her battle with breast cancer. This has been both a time of sadness and rejoicing. While we’re sad that my aunt had to leave her family and friends, we rejoice in the knowledge that her suffering has ended and she has gone home to be with the Lord. Today as I sat through…

Crazy Days of Summer Photo Challenge: Flowers
Azaleas I’m so not a gardener. Green things and I have an understanding ~ I promise not to touch them or their family members and every year the Azaleas in my front yard will pay me a visit. They don’t stay for an extended period, just long enough to say they appreciate me keeping up my end of the deal… I’m not very good at taking pictures of flowers, I’m not sure why… Anyway, I accept that this is a weakness and would like to get better. Anyone have any tips they’d like to share? Crazy Days of Summer Photo Challenge is hosted by Alicia of Project Alicia and Kristi…

Quick and Easy Summer Pasta
Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted a recipe. I guess ’cause it’s been a long time since I’ve cooked. My work schedule has turned my culinary life upside down. But, baby, I’m back. At least for the summer anyway… So here’s a quick and easy summer pasta dish that my girls and I love (the men folk, not so much, but, you know, sometimes it’s all about the ladies…). 1 lb Spaghetti 1 lb Coarse Black Pepper Bacon 3 eggs Parmesan Cheese Romano Cheese Garlic Salt Olive Oil 1. Cook the bacon until it’s crispy (crumble) 2. Season eggs with garlic salt, then scramble 3. Cook the…
