Fab Forties: Mixed Prints
As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.
This week has been <insert every emoji ever created>. I’m currently in Pennsylvania with The Hubs — we laid his father to rest on Saturday, so I hadn’t planned to share anything this week… But I needed the distraction.
The Hubs is doing well. Fortunately for us, he was blessed to be able to retire a few months back, so he was able to spend a lot of time with his father before he passed. For that, we’ll be eternally grateful.
But I don’t want to spend too much time on that… The real reason you came here is for the outfits, right?
ABOUT THE FAB FORTIES
The Fab Forties is a group of five style bloggers from around the globe who come together once a month to share their common love of fashion. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger, who is also in her forties, to join us. The group’s goal is to take on a style trend and show how we each interpret and incorporate it into our lives. Six different ladies, six different styles, you’re sure to find something that inspires you.
The Theme
This month’s theme, MIXED PRINTS, was chosen by Jennie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots. If you know me, you know I’m no wallflower when it comes to mixing prints. This challenge was right up my alley. Since I’m not a stranger to print mixing, I decided to do something a little out of my comfort zone and go a little preppy with my look…
My Outfit
The print in my top is a sweet little floral print, while my pants are a bold plaid.
I chose to keep my jewelry simple – a pair of silver ball studs and that was it.
The reasons these prints play well together are:
- the colors are similar;
- the scale of the prints are opposite; and
- everything is grounded in black.
MY COHOSTS
Dee {Dee Sayz}
I’m such a fan of stripes with EVERYTHING. And Dee’s cardi/kimono is no exception. Isn’t it just darling? And those shoes? Yes, please and thank you.
Fonda {Savvy Southern Chic}
Fonda is giving off serious snow bunny vibes, amiright? Plaids are such a fun mix, especially in contrasting colors. Don’t you just love the beanie?
Jennie {A Pocketful of Polka Dots}
Jennie, as usual, killed it with a pattern mixing. I mean, EVERYTHING is printed. How very chic, fun, and eclectic? Love it!
Sheela {Sheela Writes}
Sheela’s outfit just screams grungy fun. I love it!!! And, gosh, her shoes are so kick butt! And are those feathers on her jacket? *screams in girl crush*
Shelbee {Shelbee on the Edge}
Shelbee is so Ladies Who Lunch
Suzy {Suzy Turner}
Suzy is total biker chick and I big puffy heart it. I never would’ve thought to pair animal print with camo, but it so works! I mean, really, I’m just swooning over here.
YOUR TURN
Are you a pattern mixer? Do you go wild and clash pattern and color or do you tend to stay tonal? Leave a comment below with your thoughts.
