Describe a favorite place. Focus on how that place affects your sense of taste, touch, sight, sound or smell. ~ Adrienne McDonnell {Guest Prompt}

Cape Girardeau Conservation CenterI walk down a leaf strewn path, the sounds of birds, insects and random unseen animals fill the air, my camera is at the ready…

Over time, the leaves have gone from deep greens to varying shades of gold and red to deep purples and soft browns…

I have been here many times over the last few weeks. I come here to think, to relax, to enjoy nature but mostly, I come here to take pictures and just be.

Cape Girardeau Conservation Center

This is the Cape Girardeau Conservation Center, a place that I discovered with my oldest daughter while out driving. Set alongside the main highway through town, I’d expected it to be loud, crowded with people and overrun with trash. It’s not. The air is crisp and fresh, the sounds of cars intermingle with the sounds of nature to offer up a unique and harmonious melody.

All of the GirlsSometimes I bring my younger daughters with me, they run ahead ~ laughing and sharing secrets ~ these are the times that I cherish most, when I see my daughters behaving like best friends. Other times I bring my oldest daughter, we walk and talk, we catch up on all that we’ve missed since she’s moved away to college.

More often than not, I come alone…

Where do you go when you need to get away from it all?
