This or That Thursday #NaBloPoMo
This week has been spent learning how to use Nia, my new Nikon D3100. I have to admit, I was a bit intimidated by all the settings but the Guide setting has made it so easy to figure out what I’m doing. I’ve practiced using the Automatic, Guide and Manual settings and I’m pretty impressed with the quality of all of the photos, but I also see that I have a long way to go but here are a few of my shots from this week: My dog, Squeekerz… This was taken at my house using the flash and overhead lighting, I also used the Macro setting Night Scene I…

Word Filled Wednesday: A Time for Everything #NaBloPoMo
Sometimes it feels like things aren’t working out and my prayers aren’t being answered, but I have to remember that God works in His time, not mine. Every phase of life has its seasons, there will be times when the blessings are overflowing but there will also be times when it feels like I’m barely keeping my head above water ~ God’s gift comes not at the end of the trial but in making it through. I’m linking up with:

My Place of Refuge #NaBloPoMo
Describe a favorite place. Focus on how that place affects your sense of taste, touch, sight, sound or smell. ~ Adrienne McDonnell {Guest Prompt} I walk down a leaf strewn path, the sounds of birds, insects and random unseen animals fill the air, my camera is at the ready… Over time, the leaves have gone from deep greens to varying shades of gold and red to deep purples and soft browns… I have been here many times over the last few weeks. I come here to think, to relax, to enjoy nature but mostly, I come here to take pictures and just be. This is the Cape Girardeau Conservation Center,…

Facing My Fear of Sharing My Faith #NaBloPoMo
I was terrified to go on DWTS, but facing my fear and overcoming it has been an incredible experience. Have you faced fears and overcome them. ~ Ricki Lake {Guest Prompt} By nature, I’m a relatively shy person. I don’t mind speaking in front of a crowd, I teach American History and I work as a librarian, so speaking before crowds doesn’t bother me; but speaking to people one~on~one scares the living daylights out of me. And going to social gatherings? That totally freaks me out. I actually spend days preparing myself for the event and will often cancel out at the last minute if I feel too overwhelmed. But…

11~11~11: Birth, Vets and Prayers #NaBloPoMo
How crazy is that? Today is 11/11/11. This day only happens once every 1oo years. Did you mark it in any special way? We did! My grandson, Jromel, came into the world bright and early this morning. He weighed in at 6 lbs 13 oz and was 19½ inches long. We are all beyond excited and I cannot wait to get my hands on him and smother him in kisses. I have always loved my country and am proud that I had the opportunity to serve in the U.S. Army alongside some of the finest people America has to offer. It is with much love and respect that I honor…

How Photography Helped Me #NaBloPoMo
What is your secret (or not~so~secret) passion? ~ Jean Kwok {Guest Prompt} Right now, my current obsession is photography. I absolutely love taking out my camera, hitting the streets and snapping pictures. I’m by no means a great photographer but I think I’m pretty good. And, even if I’m not, I’m having fun. The pastor at my church has allowed me the privilege of becoming the “unofficial” church photographer, which basically means that I take pictures at our events and post them to our church’s website. I also take pictures at different social events that I attend. I’ve found that my camera sort of acts as an ice breaker for…

Living in a Loving But Disciplined Home #NaBloPoMo
When was the first time that you realized that your home was not like other people’s homes? ~ Catherine Gildiner {Guest Prompt} I think the first time I realized that my home was not like other people’s homes was when I heard a child scream “I hate you” at his mother in a moment of frustration. The mother looked around, smiled weakly and said to her son “That’s not nice, that hurts my feelings.” The kid looked totally unfazed. Ummmm, really? I wanted to grab this woman, look her in the eyes and say “You cannot let someone that you gave life to, someone that you are supporting, someone that…

My Doctor Quit After Diagnosing Me with Cancer #NaBloPoMo
Has anything traumatic ever happened to you? Describe the scenes surrounding a particular event. ~ Adrienne McDonnell {Guest Prompt} I took the registered letter from the mailman and opened the envelope, a sheet of neatly folded paper slipped to the floor. I picked it up and unfolded it: “Dear Mrs. Tucker, This letter is to inform you that you have 30 days to find a new Primary Care Physician. I will no longer be your doctor for the following reasons: You were verbally abusive towards my staff You chose not to follow the recommendations of specialists that I referred you to You did not like the way that I, as…

Finding Work ~ Life Balance, How We Did It #NaBloPoMo
Making family time is important for me. How do you balance your children, relationship and work life? ~ Ricki Lake {Guest Prompt} I won’t lie, when we lived in Pennsylvania, finding balance was hard. Everyone was operating on their own schedules ~ the hubs was working overtime, the kids were involved in different activities and I was working evenings and weekends. There were weeks when I saw my kids maybe 15 or 20 minutes a week and the hubs even less. My home life was basically falling apart. But we were doing what we had to do in order to survive. Raise your hand if you know what that’s like.…
