    You Have Cancer {Repost}

    31 October 2013 / 9 Comments

    A close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer today. As I listened to her sob over the phone, I wished I could be there to hold her hand, embrace her, and let her know that I understand what she’s going through. My heart aches for her and her family – as a wife and mother, this is an unimaginably difficult time. But her story is not mine to tell, so here’s my story: Am I going to die? Will my kids remember me? Does Tony know how much I love him? How long do I have left? Will I go peacefully?  Why me? Those were just some of the thoughts…

    The Hair Photo~A~Day Project {Photography}

    29 March 2012 / 6 Comments

    It feels weird to say “I’m a cancer survivor”. Sorta surreal, it’s like saying “I walked on the moon.” Except that it’s something that I really did. I was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer after feeling “off” for several years. You can read the story by going here. As a result of the cancer, my hair became dry and brittle and started coming out so much that I finally went to a hair salon and had it all shaved off. When my little sister found out what I’d done, she called and offered to have her hair cut and made into a wig for me. That was, perhaps, one of the…

    The Weird Sisters: A Novel By Eleanor Brown {Book Review}

    9 February 2012 / 0 Comments

    BOOK DESCRIPTION (FROM THE BACK OF THE BOOK) Three sisters have returned to their childhood home, reuniting the eccentric Andreas family. Here, books are a passion (there is no problem a library card can’t solve) and TV is something other people watch. Their father ~ a professor of Shakespeare who speaks almost exclusively in verse ~ named them after the Bard’s heroines. It’s a lot to live up to. The sisters each have a hard time communicating with their parents and their lovers, but especially with one another. What can the shy homebody eldest sister, the fast~living middle child, and the bohemian youngest sibling have in common? Only that none…

    My Doctor Quit After Diagnosing Me with Cancer #NaBloPoMo

    8 November 2011 / 16 Comments

    Has anything traumatic ever happened to you? Describe the scenes surrounding a particular event. ~ Adrienne McDonnell {Guest Prompt} I took the registered letter from the mailman and opened the envelope, a sheet of neatly folded paper slipped to the floor. I picked it up and unfolded it: “Dear Mrs. Tucker, This letter is to inform you that you have 30 days to find a new Primary Care Physician. I will no longer be your doctor for the following reasons: You were verbally abusive towards my staff You chose not to follow the recommendations of specialists that I referred you to You did not like the way that I, as…

    I Got PINKED!

    31 October 2011 / 2 Comments

    Cancer runs in my family. Specifically breast cancer. While discussing my own battles with Thyroid Cancer and “diseased breasts” with my aunt, I found out that 4 of my grandmother’s sisters died of breast cancer between the ages of 52 and 65. I had no idea. Last year when I was pinked, I did it in honor of my mother~in~law who was recovering from her last round of treatments for breast cancer and for my aunt who was also battling the disease. This summer, my aunt, Sylvia, lost her fight but she left us with so much… She left us with memories of her laugh, the kind and gentle way…

    No Cell Phones in Hospitals, Or How the Hubs Almost Killed Me

    27 October 2011 / 20 Comments

    The hubs will tell anyone who asks that he prayed that God would send someone like me into his life. He will also tell them that he should have been a little more specific in his request, you know other than “Please let her be smart and pretty enough that I don’t have to close one eye to look at her.” He should have added “And let her be a mature responsible woman who doesn’t act crazy in hospitals.” Really, some of our best funniest stories have occurred in hospitals. I think this moment is probably one of the top times when the hubs has seriously rethought his prayer request……

    Yarn Along

    26 October 2011 / 12 Comments

    1 Peter 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. A friend of mine is dealing with cancer, so I’m making this scarf and flower pin set to show my support for her. Once I’m finished it will have 2 more flowers: one in solid pink and one in solid brown. With each stitch is a prayer for health and strength as she goes through this difficult time. I’m joining up with Ginny from small things for Yarn Along.  To participate, all you have to do is take a picture…

    I Got PINKED!

    11 October 2010 / 2 Comments

    I’d like to thank Stephanie at Shear Tease in Wyoming, PA for getting me PINKED in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Every year,  I go pink in the hopes that we will find a cure for this awful disease.  I do it to celebrate the survivors in my family:  my mother~in~law, Gloria, and my aunt, Aunt Sylvia.  I also do it to in memory of my great~aunts who did not survive. If you know anyone who has been touched by this disease, please consider donating to my friends, Mylynka and Lupe, who are participating in the Susan G. Komen 3~Day for a Cure.  Simply click on my picture above…

    Book Review: What We Have: One Family’s Inspiring Story About Love, Loss, and Survival by Amy Boesky

    10 August 2010 / 0 Comments

    What would you do if your family was genetically predisposed to cancer? Would you live your life in fear of developing the disease or would you live every day as if it were your last? This is the backdrop against which author and English professor, Amy Boesky, has lived her life. The women in her family have what can only be described as a generational curse ~ by the age of forty~five all of them develop and ultimately die from ovarian cancer. This memoir is a touching tribute to the women in her family and their attempts to live life to the fullest even in the face of overwhelming odds.…
