The River Walk {This or That Thursday}
Yesterday I went for a quick photo walk along the Mississippi River… Without fail, I always take a picture of the Port Cape Girardeau… It’s just a beautiful old building and that Coca~Cola {thanks, Ellie, now you know my soda preference} sign on the side is priceless… But I think my new favorite building may be the B’Nai Israel Synagogue that I discovered on my way home. Built in 1937, it reminds me of the Middle Eastern architecture that I love so much… What did you photograph this week? I’m linking up with Deb of deb duty photography for This or That Thursday.

Knowing God By Name {Word Filled Wednesday}
When I was a little girl, I hated my name. I mean, I absolutely positively hated my name. People used to call me “Danielle”, “Darlene”, “Daniel”, etc. All perfectly fine names, but not my name. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I fully appreciated the uniqueness of my name and it wasn’t until I had children of my own that I understood the power of names. This week, I started a new study with the Women’s Bible Café called “Knowing God by Name: A Personal Encounter” by Mary Kassian. In this study, we’re learning about 35 of the more than one hundred names for God. Each name reflects…

A Girl and Her Guitar
Last week, Miss 15 begged me to take her to the store because she’d been saving her babysitting money to buy something very special… An acoustic guitar, which she’s teaching herself to play. Do you remember what you spent your first earnings on?

1957 Chevy Bel Air {Photography}
Yesterday, I got to spend some one~on~one time with the boy. It’s rare that he and I spend time hanging out with each other. I’m so not into video games and he could care less about crocheting. But one thing we do have in common is a love of old cars. Who knew? When we spotted this 1957 Chevy Bel Air in the parking lot, we just had to stop. We walked around the car, talked about how we’d fix it up. Where we’d like to take it on a drive. Just a bunch of random musings… I had no idea that the boy was that into cars. And I’m…

Sikeston Drag Strip {Getting to Know Missouri}
This weekend the hubs and I went to the Sikeston Drag Strip so that he could take his car for a spin. When we lived in Pennsylvania, he used to race every weekend {sometimes he’d take me on a ride along and OMG was it a blast}. I didn’t ride along with him this weekend, but I did have fun snapping some pictures… The hubs lining up to go down the strip. You can’t see it, but there’s a big ol’ cheese eating grin on his face. His car isn’t pimped for racing, he just wanted to see how fast it can go. He said for me to say “1/8…

Shoe Style Saturday
I didn’t really do much this week, between the chilly weather and being a bit lethargic, I just haven’t gotten out much. Last night, we went to church {the second night of our men’s conference} and I wore the shoes above. I’ve had them for at least 3 or 4 years, an impulse buy while visiting my sister in Tennessee. I think I’ve worn them 2 or 3 times. I’m never really sure what to wear them with, do you have any ideas? Where did your shoes take you this week? To participate in Shoe Style Saturday, all you have to do is take a picture of your shoes post…

Teach Your Kids to Control Their Anger {In the Family Room}
A few days ago, I read a story about a 6~year~old girl in Georgia who was handcuffed by a police officer because she was throwing a temper tantrum in the principal’s office. You can read the full story by going here. Apparently, her tantrum included screaming, pulling items off the wall and knocking over a shelf and injuring the principal. The article goes on to say attempts were made to calm the child before the police were called. Office personnel also tried to contact the girl’s parents, when those attempts failed, the police were called. The updated article also states that this child has run away from school several times…
