ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by me.

For more information about these oh so fabulous purple boudoir slippers, click here.

I chose these boudoir slippers because the color is just intense and fabulous. I know it’s just a single color, but there’s the opportunity for mixing, matching, clashing, texture imitation, etc.

MY OUTFIT

Earrings – Nickel and Suede | Laurie Felt Burnout Velvet Mock-Neck Long Sleeve Top – Exact | Black Leggings – Similar |Multicolor Pumps by Logo – Similar

I. Love. Velvet. Almost as much as I love faux leather/suede. Velvet makes me feel all cozy and royal and chi chi. Like I should be drinking my tea with my pinky out. And in this shade of purple? *swoon* Because this top is such a statement piece, I usually pair it with jeans and black pumps. Today, I decided to step things up a notch with a pair of black leggings and multicolored snake embossed pumps {honestly, these shoes would’ve been perfect for this post}. I could easily wear this outfit to work and then out to dinner. Although, I think I’d toss on a boyfriend blazer for work, just to make sure everything is covered.

Do you wear velvet as an every day fabric, or do you save it for the holidays? If you’re unsure about how to wear velvet to work, check out my Pinterest board for ideas.

THE CO-HOSTS

Make sure you stop by and visit my co-hosts to see all the details of their outfits:

Salazar 14 Shades of Grey

Salazar wrote that she “…had a lot of fun putting together. I don’t have anything purple in my closet, so I ran the photo through my photo editor to change its hue, and came up with a green-and-blue version, which I used for my outfit. I also tried to capture the different textures of the silk and the velvet in my outfit, with my silk blouse and velvet skirt, and added a brooch for the sparkly buckles.” How creative!! One of these days, we need to just have pictures of Salazar’s brooch collection because they are each oh-so-fabulous. I’m also digging those shoes. So cool.

Kim Fierce Fashion Blog

Like I told Kim, I love love love this color combination. It’s so funky, don’t you think? Kim “…went with burgundy as “my” purple and added the pants because of the gold lining.  I thought the embroidery stitching was a nice nod to the quilting.” And, seriously, the embroidery is giving me heart palpitations.
