ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by by me.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Cap | Early 19th Century | The Met

Back to school means Autumn for me. Even when it’s still over 90° outside. I can’t help it. I always think cozy sweaters, rich colors, snuggly caps. Well, that’s simply not an option in Louisiana. However, this cap kinda gives me autumnal vibes. The colors are pastel but saturated and, well, it’s a cap. And y’all know how I feel about embroidery: LOVE IT.

Have fun styling this piece! I know I will. By the way, if you’d like to go on a tour of my closet and see the pieces I have to choose from, visit this post.

MY OUTFIT

Embroidery, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

deep heavy sigh

You guys, I love myself some embroidery. Even when the piece is mass produced, something about embroidery gives whatever it’s on a handmade feel. I think this top evokes the same handmade craftsmanship as the cap, so that’s why I chose to wear it.

And the colors are perfect, no?

A friend asked if I’m still wearing earrings even though I have to wear a mask. I am. The earrings give me a sense of normalcy in an otherwise chaotic world. It’s the little things.

The pieces of jewelry that I haven’t worn as much are necklaces and bracelets. Necklaces because I’ve started wearing my badge so that people {especially students} can easily identify me with the mask. And bracelets? Hmmmm, I don’t know. There isn’t a real reason I’ve stopped wearing them, but I should.

And, yes, I do wear lipstick. I mean, the mask does come off at some point during the day. The trick is to wear long lasting, budge proof, ain’t going nowhere lipstick.

So about this top… I liked it so much that I bought both colors. I rarely do that, but I thought the black would be nice as we transition into, ahem, cooler weather here in Louisiana.
