ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.

This week’s image is curated by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}. Salazar is “…a stagnating packet of crisps {context} trying to change by adding more colors to my wardrobe and my life.”

Salazar wrote that she “…actually used [this image] for my Story Generation class back in college, in which you have to pick an image, a song, or a poem and write a story inspired by it. I came across it again as I was looking through my old school work, and it’s so striking that I know I have to use it for SIA.” You can read more about the image here. I think it’s cool that Salazar has some of her old assignments. Now I’m inspired to go digging through my belongings to see what I may have…
As for this image… Hmmmm, let’s see. There are the obvious golds and blacks, metallics, and mattes, but there are also greys, whites, and browns. There is also a whole lot of pattern play, so there is plenty of room for interpretation.
