This morning I woke up with one goal in mind ~ buy a succulent garden. I’ve always loved succulents. Actually, I’ve always loved plants but since I became a card carrying member of the Serial Plant Killers Anonymous Club, I’ve banned myself from buying any. But then I started spending an inordinant amount of time perusing succulent gardens on Pinterest and I decided that I had to have one. Not wanted but needed to have one. And my justification was that this little garden would look beautiful on my new coffee table once it finally arrives. Hello, week 3 of no living room furniture. Do you know how hard it is to strategically take photos so it looks like I’m sitting on something other than carpet?

Succulent GardenSo I grabbed my PIC (Partner in Crafting) aka as Miss 18 and headed off to Lowe’s to see what we could find. I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted in a garden, I just knew that I wanted something easy to maintain, slightly funky and eye catching. Most of the arrangements we saw were incredibly beautiful but the pots weren’t exactly what I was looking for. They were either too smooth, too brown or they lacked that fun factor.

So after spending about 10 or 15 minutes looking at the pre~made succulent gardens I decided to see about making my own. The first order of business was looking at the various pots. It took me all of about 15 seconds to hone in on the coffee cup planter. Isn’t it adorable? I’m a coffee fiend so I knew this planter was coming home with me.

Next I had to settle on the plants. This part took forever because every time I found something that I liked Miss 18 would show me something else and I would immediately start swooning. This is why I need to not take her with me. Once I finally settled on 3 plants that I liked, we started to leave the store then I remembered that I needed stones to set on the bottom of the planter and cover the top of the soil. I chose some beautiful river rocks in shades of brown, gold and amber.

We paid and left the store. I was all excited to get home and get to playing in the dirt and then it hit me….

I FORGOT THE DIRT!!!!
