Distracted Students and Shattered Dreams {In the Cafe}
1. “Leggings are not pants!” Every time I look at the black leggings folded up in my drawer, my daughter’s voice echoes in my ears. She said that the first time she saw me in a denim shirt, leggings, and boots. You can see the offending outfit here. For the record, the denim shirt was long enough to cover the junk in my trunk but still my daughter said I was a big ol’ don’t. I didn’t agree with her and wore the outfit anyway. 1. Last week, a federal judge in Brooklyn, New York ordered that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration make the morning after pill available without a prescription to women of all ages. This includes girls under the age of 17. I’m not going to get into the discussion over whether abortion should be legal or not because this isn’t about abortion, this is about preventing a pregnancy before it occurs. However, I will get into the discussion over whether or not children under the age of 17 should be allowed to get medication, any medication, without a prescription or parental knowledge. Ya know, it seems like every time I start using a product or get hooked on a TV show, Jericho, anyone? it gets discontinued and I’m left scrambling to find a replacement… And so it is with my favorite feed reader, Google Reader. So often when focusing on the news, we highlight the bad and ignore the good, well, this week, I want it all good… 1. A United Airlines crew held up a flight so that a man could make his connecting flight in order to be with his mom as she lay dying. Seriously, this made my eyes well up at my desk… A man who was flying from California to Texas to be by his mom’s side missed his connecting flight and became distraught. Once the flight crew found out what happened, they offered the man some tissues and their apologies. In the meantime, the pilot called the connecting pilot…
