Coffee Talk {Living Outside the Stacks}Hi, and welcome to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stories that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head and asking “What the what?” to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever and make me wonder who has time for that. And there may be a recipe or two thrown in just for fun.

So grab a cup of whatever you fancy and let’s start chatting…

1.  Have you been following the case of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, a Philadelphia abortion doctor who’s on trial for the murder of 4 babies? This doctor {and I use that term loosely because last time I checked, doctors are sworn to do no harm}, is accused of the most heinous crimes against humanity and the case is receiving little to no coverage. You can read a brief history of the story here.

I have so many issues with this story but I’ll hit the top 3 here:

  • When and how often were state inspections done?
  • How come no one who worked with this “doctor” reported him? Was it really all about a paycheck?
  • Why isn’t this story getting front page coverage? Oh, it’s because it’s talking about the heinous murder of babies “fetuses”. If this guy had committed these crimes against an adult or even a “baby”, people would be going after him with pitchforks and fire.

2. A teenage soccer player could be facing charges in the murder of a referee who slipped into a coma and then died after being punched. I’m totally going to blame the soccer player’s parents here ~ their child was obviously not taught to control his anger. Now that the kid’s a teenager, it’s too late. And a family has lost a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a friend…   You can read about the story here.

3. And because I hate to end on a sad note, let’s give it up for a Canadian man who celebrated his birthday by paying off his mom’s mortgage! You can watch the video here. Note to my kids: any time you wanna help your parents out, this is a good way to start.

What had you scratchin’ your head this week?
