My sisters and I spent most of our formative years in Italy (thanks to my stepdad and the United States Air Force) and while we were over there, my parents acquired many beautiful treasures ~ statutes, glass pieces, vases, etc. But the one thing they had that I always wanted was the marble and wood chess set, where my dad and I used to sit and play chess (for minutes on end ~ I’m really bad at the game). When I moved out on my own, my very first piece of furniture was the chess set and it has been displayed in every home I’ve lived in for over 18 years.
