Hey, y’all, hey! How’s it going? Things are going well over here. The City is here, working on the sidewalk outside our house. There’s a giant tree that caused the sidewalk to buckle and it’d become a tripping hazard. So we’re not gonna be able to use our driveway for about a week. Hopefully, it won’t rain.

I should note – because this is super important – the creative brain behind this project is Bettye at Fashion Schlub! Love her!

THE THEME: My Favorite Piece of Furniture

Sentimental

From the time we were teens until we graduated high school, my mom used to tell us that we were allowed to pick a few items to take with us when we moved into our own homes. My twin sister took her at her word and took pots, pans, dishes, furniture, seasoning, and a few other weird things.

Pretty much from the time I was a kid until I grew up, I’d always said I was taking three things:

  • Chess set
  • Swinging chair
  • Handmade quilt

I have two of the three: the chess set and the swinging chair. Unfortunately, I don’t have space to set up the chess set {it consists of two carved chairs, a table with a marble top, and full-size chess pieces. So no pictures.

The quilt was handmade by my mom, as in she cut up pieces of our baby clothes and hand sewed it to a full-size blanket. I remember every piece of cloth, the different colored threads, the shapes, everything about that blanket. Unfortunately, it was lost years ago.

This leaves the swinging chair. I’ve had this chair for well over twenty-five years. I’ve rocked my kids to sleep in that chair. My kids have rocked our dogs to sleep in that chair. The chair is old and has startled to unravel, so it’s no longer safe for real people, so now it’s Kareena’s chair.

Fun Piece

When we lived in Georgia, The Hubs and I used to like to get in our RV and visit small towns. During these trips, we’d visit museums and do a little antiquing or flea market shopping. It was during one of these trips that we purchased the floor radio. The Hubs had originally planned to get it retro fitted with updated stereo equipment, but we moved to Louisiana and those plans sort of fell to the side. Now we use it as a decorative piece.
