Where Bloggers Live: My skincare routine

Hi, how are things? Wondering what I’ve been up to? Well, my friend Kristin {Chicken Librarian} and I brought back our Coffee and a Pie Chat series and, let me tell you, we’ve already made two incredibly delicious and easy pies. Plus, the TikTok shop convinced me to buy the cutest barrel dress, and I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be my new uniform. They have so many colors and all of them are good. Annnnnd I wrote a new post…

THE PROMPT: My skincare routine

To be honest, I never really had a skincare routine until recently. And the only reason I have one now is because I stayed at a luxury hotel that offered face wipes for makeup removal {up until then, I’d always used a wash cloth and a little face soap}. Using the makeup removal cloth felt so decadent and refreshing that I immediately went to the local drugstore and picked up a container to take home. I don’t know what it is about those cloths but when I’m finished using them, my face feels so much cleaner and softer. And the makeup comes off without the scrubbing that I had to do when I was using a wash cloth.

I use the Neutrogena Hydroboost with Hyaluronic Acid Cleansing Wipes. They’re reasonably priced and have the softest feel to them. I also like that they don’t have a weird medicinal or soapy scent to them.

CONTROVERSIAL TAKE ALERT: After I clean my face, I use a thin layer of petroleum jelly to keep my skin from drying out. I know this is a controversial take but my grandmother used petroleum jelly and her skin was flawless. I mean, you’re not gooping it on, just the thinnest of layers. I also use petroleum jelly as a makeup primer. Yes, here in the hot state of Louisiana. My makeup doesn’t slide off or fade like it did when I wasn’t using anything. My favorite petroleum jelly product is this store brand with cocoa butter. It makes my skin feel so soft. And I use the leftover product on my hands because I don’t like the slippery feel that lotion can sometimes leave on my hands.

And, last but not least, I swear by The Lip Bar lipsticks. Any color. But my favorites are: Bawse Lady {the most beautiful shade of red, flattering on every skin tone}, Rich Auntie {a lux berry shade}, and Playmate {a fun electric pink shade that has been renamed “Big Gretch” as it’s favored by Governor Gretchen Whitmer}. These are all long lasting matte lip colors as that’s my preference. You can also mix these colors to create an ombre look or to even create your own custom colors.
