    In the Neighborhood: Zoo Boo

We didn’t celebrate Halloween when I was growing up. Religious reasons. When I had my own children, I let them dress up when they were little, although I made it perfectly clear that I was not a fan. Once they hit junior high, they stopped dressing up, but they’d go to their grandma’s house to hand out candy to the neighborhood kids. This continued until we moved away from Pennsylvania. After that, we became non-observant. The college where I currently work is heavily involved in community outreach. In fact, our biggest events are Zoo Boo, Alexandria Winter Fete, and Mardi Gras. Zoo Boo is a big Halloween celebration that takes…

How’re things in your neck of the woods? We’re doing well here. The heat has subsided to a small degree, so we’re all a bit more comfortable. We’re at about 90something degrees, which is a far cry from the triple digits we’ve been dealing with over the summer. I also found the most stunning black…

You can see a little bit of it in the trunk of my car in the picture. It’s a Betsy Johnson piece that I found years ago at Marshall’s. They had a smaller under seat suitcase that I routinely kick myself for not buying. I didn’t think I’d need it. I was looks…

As much as I try to deny it, I’m a romantic at heart. Not the ripped bodice, passionate type of romantic, but the I get caught up in novels, I imagine how things could’ve been or should’ve been type of person. I dream about alternate endings, like, what if I had chosen to accept the full scholarship to…

When The Hubs and I first got married, I couldn’t cook at all. In fact, I’d lived in my apartment for about 6 months and hadn’t even turned on the stove. It was just my infant daughter and me, so I didn’t feel the need to cook. I used to buy crawfish, potatoes, and boiled corn from the…

Mine has been pretty good. I spent some time with my daughter and her girlfriend a little over a week ago and, y’all, when I say hanging out with your adult children is momming on a whole different level, it really is. I had such a good time. If you’d like to…

    Weekend Getaway: Georgia

Y’all, I just spent the weekend with my daughter and her girlfriend in Georgia. When I tell you having adult children is a whole different level of momming, I’m not kidding. I love my kids, I love them dearly, but the one thing I’m most proud of is how much I genuinely like them. And, gosh, it makes my momma heart happy that they want to hang out with me. Savannah, Georgia While my daughter drove and Katie kept her company, I napped in the back. Not gonna lie, being able to relax on the road was super nice. I had to get a snap of this poster of The…

How’s your weekend going so far? Mine is OK. Yesterday was so cold and rainy after several days of darn near 90º weather and today? Well, it’s absolutely perfect, which is big coming from me. It’s 67º, my optimum temp is 72º. It’s a little cloudy but warm. I can deal. I may even grab…

My sister and I turned fifty yesterday. FIFTY. Where did the time go? In some ways, I still feel like that young mom looking around for the adult in the room and realizing she is me. Do you remember that feeling? It’s not that I thought I’d wake up on the day of my fiftieth and magically have…

Hey, how are things in your neck of the woods? As usual, I’m getting this post up late, but at least it’s on the correct day. This was a hard post to write… Not because I don’t have favorites, but because it was hard for me to narrow it down. I tried to spread the love across a…
