Week 4: Fill the Frame
Week 4: Fill the Frame Nikon D7500 | 50mm | f/5.6 | 1/25 | ISO 500 2018 saw the introduction of a new 52 week photography project, which has me totally excited. This year I want to really step out creatively and learn/practice new skills. I’d also really like to do more than just make photos of my morning coffee, although I do enjoy that. If you’d like to join in, I’m using the prompts from Definitely Dreaming. Anyway, I thought I’d let these posts do a sort of double duty, if you will. I’ll share my weekly photo and a few highlights from the week. So here goes… The feel…

New Specs from Firmoo {and a discount code}
Disclaimer: This post contains an affiliate link. If you make a purchase using that link, I will receive a small commission. I purchased my glasses with my own money; the opinions shared is my own. I was about 7 or 8 years old when I got my first pair of glasses. I remember walking out of the doctor’s office, looking at my mom, and saying “I didn’t know there were individual leaves on trees.” For years, trees had looked like brown rectangles with green circles. And people looked like walking blurs. I didn’t know what I wasn’t seeing until I did. My vision was bad. It’s still incredibly bad. My…

Wear for Work: Burgundy Sweater and Denim Skirt
Y’all, the weather this week has been all over the place. One day we’re freezing, the next it’s practically summer. I mean, I really need it to pick a season and last longer than 24 hours. And today it snowed. It. SNOWED. Everyone’s walking around all sniffly and everything. I still have residual <insert snorty noise here> from the flu. In fact, I’m pretty sure that The Walking Dead was prophetic and Georgia really is ground zero for the plague. One of my favorite go to looks to ward off the chill is an over-sized sweater paired with tights and boots. To me, it’s just the ultimate in coziness. How…

Be Brave
I used to tell my kids they should do one thing in their life that they can look back on and think Ohmygosh, I cannot believe I did that! You know, something that their kids or spouse will have to call me to verify. In other words, live boldly. Not dangerously. Boldly. There’s a difference. When I was in the Army, I was stationed in Korea for a year and I loved it. I used to spend my weekends hanging out with local Koreans. You know, dancing and eating all kinds of foods that I couldn’t identify. I spoke very little Korean. Truth be told, all I could say was…

Book Girl Magic Reading Challenge
This post contains an affiliate link. If you make a purchase using that link, I will make a commission at no extra charge to you. Along with improving my photography skills, I want to read more this year. You’d think that I’d read a lot since I’m a librarian, but I don’t. I mean, I buy books, start them, put them down to watch This Is Us and never pick them up again. This year, I’m going to meet my goal of 12 books for the year. Baby steps, y’all. BOOK GIRL MAGIC READING CHALLENGE I discovered the Book Girl Magic Reading Challenge on Carla’s blog, Rae La Soul. The…

Week 1: The Beginning | Self Portrait Nikon D7500 | 35mm | f/2 | 1/2500 | ISO 640 Happy New Year! So, I guess you can tell that I’m starting another 52 week project. I don’t know why I do this to myself… Actually, yeah, I do. Because I keep thinking this’ll be the year that I finish. I mean I really want to finish something. And I’d really like the opportunity to do more than just make photos of my morning coffee, although I do enjoy that. So I thought I’d let these posts do a sort of double duty, if you will. I’ll share my weekly photo and…

Throwback Thursday: First Snow
With the cold snap that’s gripping the nation, I thought it’d be fun to share a picture from my first snow. We were living in El Paso, Texas at the time, so I think my twin sister and I were about four or five and my younger sister was about one or two. Notice how we didn’t have gloves or “winter” coats. But I think the star of the show is my mom’s afro. On a related note {and, gah, I wish I had pictures}… The first time my kids saw snow was when they were between 2 and 5 years old. We were living in Pennsylvania at the time,…

Ageless Style Linkup: What Goes Around…
Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you had a peaceful introduction to 2018. We did. The Hubs, our youngest daughter, and I spent some time with our oldest daughter and her family and, wow, was it fun. We’re already talking about when we can see them again. The grandkids had us laughing at their antics. They even tried to teach The Hubs some new dance moves. 😳😂 You can see photos from our trip on Instagram, if you like. THE AGELESS STYLE LINKUP So, this is the first Ageless Style Linkup of 2018. Yay! I couldn’t be more excited. There are some exciting changes to announce, but first a little…
