1.On Friday I received a beautiful ‘Heart of Haiti’ pendant in the mail in exchange for a post that I’d written on behalf of Macy’s, as I read the thank you letter, I couldn’t help but to cry thinking about the artisans who create the pendants. These are women who create handmade works of art to support themselves and their children. Items range in price from about $8 to about $280. I’m not receiving any compensation for this, I just think this is a terrific cause. 2. I bribe my kids. Have you ever read something that was so completely ridiculous that you weren’t sure whether to be angry or stunned by its stupidity? Yes? Good, because that’s how I felt when I read evolutionary psychologist, Satoshi Kanazawa’s blog post, “Why Are Black Women Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women?” in Psychology Today. They’ve since removed the article, but there are cached versions out there. I won’t link to them because I don’t want Psychology Today getting any traffic from my blog. Miss 17 Goes to Prom
You know how you have a teenage daughter and they sigh and huff at everything because you just don’t get it because you’re only mom and you’ve never been cool? Almost 16 years ago, I traded in my sporty little white Ford Escort GT for a mini van.
