365 Project: Week 1
I think I started two personal photography projects last year and I failed to complete both of them. I felt little to no desire to pick up my camera. Sometimes when I start feeling that way, I take my camera and visit the students at the training center to snap a few shots to post on the college’s Facebook page. Due to COVID, I didn’t have that creative outlet, so everything felt dry. Any photos that I did make felt forced and uninspired. So, I decided that I’m going to shoot through 2021. No matter what, I’m going to take my camera out every day and snap something. I know…

Where Bloggers Live: My Inspiration
I made the image above many years ago… The Hubs and I were touring an historic home and these sweet little mules and robe were laid out on this vintage fainting sofa and I nearly swooned. One of my favorite Harlem Renaissance novelists is Nella Larsen. NPR has a whole series about her, you can listen/read by clicking here. I’ve read Passing multiple times and am in the process of reading Quicksand. Helga, the heroine in Quicksand, talks about her partiality to opulence and satin and velvets and all things lush… When I saw this set up, I just imagined Helga leaning back, wrist on forehead, fanning herself with a…

Welcome to the first Style Imitating Art of 2021. I’m so ready for the start of the new year, aren’t you? Do you have any big plans? I don’t. I mostly just want us all to get back to some sense of normalcy. I don’t know what that new normal is, but I know that it has to…

20 from 2020: Remembering and Celebrating
I’ve been thinking about the year 2020 a lot. And, like many people, I’m guilty of just blanketing all of 2020 with negativity, when – in fact – this is not true. Yes, there have been some disappointments and I’ve shed more than a few tears this year, but I’ve also laughed a lot. I’ve probably talked to my kids more this year than in previous years since they all moved out of our house. My grandkids have kept us entertained through videos, pictures, and telephone calls. The Hubs and I have cooked more meals together and gotten into a nice little kitchen cleanup routine. And I’ve learned to let…

Where Bloggers Live: Company’s Coming
THE THEME One of the primary reasons we wanted to move to Louisiana was so that we could be close to our grandchildren and centrally located to our other kids. We wanted our house to be the gathering place. So we bought a home with 4 bedroom house with plenty of comfortable space for adults and “camping” space for kids. So far, all of our kids have visited at some point, save our oldest daughter and her family. We’re hoping that changes in the coming year. This is our guest room. Our goal was to make it comfortable and kind of hotel like. The curtains are heavy tapestry to block…
