    Brown Mary Janes {Shoe Style Saturday}

    24 March 2012 / 4 Comments

    Omg, yesterday was crazy! Between the rain and the hail, I thought for sure we were gonna have to build an ark. Didn’t get a chance to see the pictures of the hail that I posted? Check them out by going here. Seriously, I have never seen hail that big before. I’m surprised someone wasn’t knocked out. But I did learn one thing, after a storm, you sometimes see the most beautiful skies. And other times they’re just eerie and ominous. Don’t believe me? Go here to check it out. Anyway, the hubs and I ran errands. We’re down to one car while his is getting fixed… Y’all, it’s been…

    Thankful for the Purple Moments {Shoot. Edit. Submit.}

    23 March 2012 / 3 Comments

    Edited using the “Barn Wall” texture from CoffeeShop Barn Textures While walking through the woods at the Conservation Center, I saw this sweet little purple flower poking its head through the dead leaves and grass. I almost overlooked it because the flower was so tiny and delicate, just barely visible. As I studied the flower, I wondered how many others had passed it by? How many people had missed the beauty of this little spot of purple amid all the brown? When was the last time I stopped to thank God for all of the blessings in my life ~ both big and small? 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says that we’re…

    Bollinger Mill Historic Site {This or That Thursday}

    22 March 2012 / 8 Comments

    I drove out to the Bollinger Mill Historic Site last week and had a fun time roaming around and taking pictures of everything. The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, it was just one of those days that begged to captured and remembered. I love old abandoned homes, there’s something mysterious about them. I want to know who lived in the house, why they left it… Despite the “Open” sign hanging on the front door, the Old Mill Store looked as if it had been abandoned many years ago. This is the side of the mill, isn’t it beautiful? It was built in the 1800s and ran until the…

    He Will Direct Your Path {Word Filled Wednesday}

    21 March 2012 / 24 Comments

    Miss 18 made it home safely from New York late Sunday evening. Praise God. Y’all have no idea how much I was stressing over this trip… A few weeks ago, Miss 18 called to ask if I could bring her home for Spring Break and I agreed. My head was immediately filled with all of the adventures we’d have since the weather’s warmed up. Then the day before I was to pick her up, she informed me that she’d be spending the week in New York. My heart broke for a variety of reasons: My daughter wasn’t coming home She was going off to New York With people I didn’t…

    That Hair Thang {Vlog}

    20 March 2012 / 8 Comments

    Just a quick vlog to answer some questions that I’ve received about my hair, transitioning and the attitude of black women towards their hair. This is my hair, 9 months into the transition stage. From the roots to where the reddish brown begins is all new growth (hair that hasn’t been chemically altered). For the most part, I just wash and go. I braid it at night so that the natural texture and the relaxed textures can blend a little better. I don’t subscribe to the theory of “good hair” or “bad hair”, I think all hair is good as long as it’s healthy and you keep it looking decent.…

    Changing My Perspective: Dandelions {Photography}

    19 March 2012 / 8 Comments

    When I first picked up my camera, my goal was to simply capture a moment. I didn’t know anything about focus, composition or lighting. I didn’t pay attention to angles and perspective. I simply picked up the camera, aimed and snapped. And while those photographs have made for some wonderful memory makers, that certain oomph is missing. It’s the oomph that takes pictures from being meh to wow. When taking pictures of flowers, for example, I used to only take them with me standing over them and looking down. A nice picture and incredibly “useful” in many cases. You get a nice overall view of the flower and the surrounding…

    Scavenger Hunt Sunday

    18 March 2012 / 16 Comments

    Hi! Welcome to another edition of Scavenger Hunt Sunday. What a great week I’ve had: I was selected to be a small group leader for an online Bible study program which has me so excited, I finally got my Facebook page set up and I’m loving it (please click here to check it out) and, well, I’ve been blessed to see another week and participate in another hunt. 1. Vintage I bought these beautiful necklaces at a second~hand shop when I lived in Pennsylvania. There’s something so classy and yet so funky about pearls, don’t you think? 2. Word or Quote I saw this verse written on slip of paper…

    I decided to bring it back… Shoe Style Saturday. I just love shoes too much to ignore them. Today my shoes are supposed to be taking me to choir rehearsal for a sound check but I’m still fighting this stupid cold. Where will your shoes take you today? To participate in Shoe Style Saturday, all you have to do is take a picture of your shoes post them to your blog leave a…

    Dandelion {Shoot. Edit. Submit.}

    16 March 2012 / 6 Comments

    Hi, if you’re new here please feel free to look around and leave a comment. If you like, you can also join me and the rest of my friends on Facebook by clicking here. I often wonder what my neighbors must think when they drive past my house and I’m stretched out on the ground taking pictures of dandelions. And by down on the ground, I mean I was literally in the mud when I took the above picture but it was so worth it, don’t you think? I’ve been practicing using the Manual settings and having so much fun (and seriously over exposing) with my shots. I need to…

    Why I Need to Study the Bible

    16 March 2012 / 1 Comment

    A few weeks ago, I heard the story of Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani and I was awe struck by the strength of his faith in the face of certain death. Pastor Youcef was sentenced to death in Iran for being a Christian, you can read more about him by clicking here. When presented with the opportunity to save his life by “simply” claiming that Jesus is a prophet and not the son of God, Pastor Youcef replied “I cannot…” and went on to explain that by making that declaration, he would be denying the very essence of his faith and would offend God. Pastor Youcef has become the face of the…
