Coffee Talk {Living Outside the Stacks}

Hi, and welcome to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk…

1. For the first time in 39 years, Al Roker overslept and missed a show. He was a no show for his morning show, Wake Up with Al. Duuuude, don’t they tell you oversleeping is not a valid excuse for being late or missing work? I kid, I kid. After 39 years, he was due for an off day.

2. A bus driver has come under fire for not intervening during a fight on his school bus in Florida. Three teenage boys (aged 15) jumped a 13~year~old boy and viciously beat and kicked him because he reported them for selling drugs. Most of the focus has been on the bus driver because people are saying he could have done more to stop the fight or he could’ve helped the injured student out instead of just radioing for help. The bus driver is 64 years old, what could he do against 3 teenagers hell bent on doing some damage?

I think people should be more outraged at the behavior of the boys involved. What is wrong with them that they think this is acceptable behavior? Moreover, why were these boys allowed back on the bus after they were reported for drugs anyway? There should have been some protection in place for the 13~year~old who reported the initial crime.

But that being said, maybe we need to look at the people who are taking guardianship of our children when they leave our care. The same way people are talking about having security guards in schools, perhaps we need security guards on buses now.

3. A travel alert was issued for Americans in the Middle East. blank stare Why are people still visiting those countries? At this point, if you go over there aren’t you already throwing your hands up and saying “Take me now”? I kinda feel bad for President Obama though, he closed the embassies, put everyone on high alert and everything because of increased chatter but you know if nothing happens folks are gonna dog him out. And if he hadn’t done all of that and something happened people would say he’s delusional. That man is in a no~win situation. I wouldn’t want to be there.

What had you scratchin’ your head this past week?
