This is truly the heart of our home. We do everything in this space: eat, talk, laugh, pay bills, cry over said bills…

We have a dining room/kitchen combo, which I absolutely love. I’ve found that as my kids have gotten older, I prefer the informal setting of a combination area. I like being part of the action. The hubs surprised me with the dining room table a while back. Long story short, he had given mine away with the promise of a new oneSkip ahead 6 months and we were still eating our meals at a card table. A. Card. Table. Just as we were on the brink of divorce marriage counseling, I came home to this table. And it’s absolutely perfect: a nice mix of masculinity with a touch of the eclectic.

My children were very much a part of the house hunting process {while we were still living in Pennsylvaniathey selected the school district they wanted us to live in based on research}. In fact, they saw this house before I did. Miss 17 was emphatic about our new home having two things: a pool and an island in the kitchen. I’m happy to say she got both.

At some point, we want to remodel the kitchen but that won’t be for a while yet. In the meantime, the kitchen is functional and does what I need it to do.

I’m still torn between putting curtains up or leaving them off. I like the open feel that comes from going curtain~less and we have privacy courtesy of the blinds, but I want more color.

Do you have curtains in your kitchen? What about in your dining room?
