Where Bloggers Live: My Home
Welcome to our home. Moving to Louisiana has been a bit of a homecoming for us. The Hubs and I met when we were stationed at Fort Polk, about 45 minutes away from where we live. You can read about our first date here. When we found out we were moving here, The Hubs and I wrote out a list of things we wanted in a home. We knew we wanted this to be our retirement home, so we wanted: one floor, open concept, little to no carpet, space for a coffee bar {I rejected a lot of homes because this was lacking}, enough room to park an RV and…

My Home Office
When we first moved to our new house, I’d planned to make my office upstairs but Squeekerz had other ideas. He’ll be 18 this year and going up and down the stairs is incredibly difficult for him. For the first few months, I carried him upstairs whenever I needed to work, but – if you follow me on Instagram, then you know – Squeekerz HATES being picked up. So I talked to The Hubs and asked if he’d mind if I turned our entry way aka Squeekerz’s bedroom into my office and he was game. So this is it… I placed my desk in front of that window for a…

House Tour: The Living Room
This is our ferocious guard dog, Squeekerz, he’d like to welcome you to our home. If you’d like to make a lifelong friend, please bring him cookies. Preferably, Girl Scout Shortbread but he’ll accept bread slices… A few weeks back, the kids and I were sitting in the living room talking when they announced that the living room was “too brown”. They proceeded to point out every brown object in the room. I can take a hint, I needed to add more color. So I went “shopping” around the house for a few items. The photos on the walls are pictures that I’ve taken here in Missouri and in Mississippi.…

House Tour: The Dining Room & Kitchen
Hi, and welcome to my home. I hope you’ll enjoy your visit… This is truly the heart of our home. We do everything in this space: eat, talk, laugh, pay bills, cry over said bills… We have a dining room/kitchen combo, which I absolutely love. I’ve found that as my kids have gotten older, I prefer the informal setting of a combination area. I like being part of the action. The hubs surprised me with the dining room table a while back. Long story short, he had given mine away with the promise of a new one… Skip ahead 6 months and we were still eating our meals at a…

House Tour: The Foyer
Hi, and welcome to my home. I hope you’ll enjoy your visit… The console table is from Annie Laurie’s Antiques. If you’re ever in the area, you really need to pay her a visit, she has some of the most unique items. In fact, if you come back for another visit, you’ll see a few other items from her store that I’ve placed around the house. Have you ever received a gift from one of your kids and wondered What in the world am I gonna do with this? That’s how I felt about that lamp when it was given to me by Mr. Seventeen. I think he was all…

House Tour: The Foyer
Hi, and welcome to my home. I hope you’ll enjoy your visit… My foyer is separated in to two parts, so I’m going to split the tour into two separate posts. The foyer is one entry way but there are two walls with two focal areas. What you’re seeing today is the area you see as soon as you walk enter the house. Since moving to Missouri, the hubs and I have discovered that we absolutely love shopping at antique stores, thrift shops, and yard sales. So many of the things that we’ve used to accessorize our home are “found” and/or reclaimed items. I think this gives our home a little more…

New House Tour: The Living Room
I love my new house. One of the things I knew I wanted in our new place was a lot of light. I wanted to be able to take photographs inside without running around, gathering lamps from all over the house and then aiming them at my subject. I also wanted a fireplace. I may not ever use it but I wanted one. I just think they add warmth to the living space. I wasn’t sure if my old world eclectic style from the old house would fit in this house (click here to see pictures of the old house) but the hubs was convinced everything would work. And, I…

New House Tour: The Front Porch
You can’t see me, but I’m dancing a jig. Well, I’m not really ’cause I don’t know how to dance a jig but if I did, I would, but it wouldn’t matter ’cause you wouldn’t be able to see me so you’d have to take my word for it. So either way, you just have to trust that I’m happy about my current living situation. Whew! We have a house. A nice house. A beautiful house that has made us all incredibly happy. Now to be honest, when I first saw the house, I hated it. I thought, I could muddle through for six months. Nine months max. But absolutely…

House Tour: Kitchen
When we first bought our house, everything in it was white ~ from the walls to the appliances to the floor. Just. White. I’m so not a white room kinda girl, so I painted the cabinets a deep chocolate brown and the walls what I hoped was sage but dried more of an almost moldy lime. It was different but I was way too exhausted to repaint everything. And, quite honestly, it started to grow on me until one day in the middle of an argument about who knows what, the hubs looked me square in the eye and said, “By the way, I hate your {bleeping} green kitchen!” What?…
