Closet Tour: Spare Bedroom Turned Walk-In Closet

Closet Tour Spare Bedroom to Walk-In Closet {living outside the stacks} Follow @DaenelT on Instagram

A little over a month ago, The Hubs and I converted our spare bedroom into a walk-in closet for me. We’d been talking about it off and on for a couple of years, but never got around to it. But schedule conflicts made the conversion necessary. The first thing I had to do was figure out what sort of vibe I wanted and then how I wanted things laid out. The vibe was easy — I wanted my space to have a bohemian , vintage store, found pieces feel. Vintage shops are my happy place; I wanted to feel happy every time I got dressed in the mornings. The next part was figuring out how I what I wanted in the space and how I wanted it to look once it was in place.  All of the big pieces: the dresser, swinging chair, shoe cabinet, and chest are things that we’ve owned for years. The clothing rack is new. I was torn between a black rack and the matte gold one. I chose the gold one, thinking that I’d wallpaper the wall behind it in something fun. Obviously, I didn’t get around to wallpapering, but I’ll probably paint the wall a dark color this coming summer. I like the idea of a dark plum or deep burgundy. Something very funky that’ll make my green velvet curtains pop. I’ll update when it’s done.

SOME OF MY FAVORITE THINGS

My babies wrote these notes for me just before I left for my first library trip. They’d placed them in my suitcase with their favorite stuffed animals. I know, right? I’ve carried them folded in my wallet since then. But I wanted to take them out of my wallet and display them, especially since I accidentally left my wallet in a rental car over the summer and had to have the cleaning crew track it down.

I ended up mounting the notes in frames from the dollar store and hanging them on the walls. They make beautiful, sentimental pieces of art.

I found this jewelry hanger on Amazon and thought it’d fit in with the vintage, found pieces vibe I wanted for my space.

This chest is a piece we found at a local second-hand, vintage store. As soon as The Hubs saw it, he told the booth owner that I’d want it. Sure enough, as soon as I rounded the corner, I gasped. I didn’t know where it would go or what I’d do with it, I just knew it had to come home with me. For a couple of years, it sat in my home office, and I used it store the dogs’ leashes and medical records. Now, it’s in my closet and it holds my camis, pajamas, and other accessories.

I have so. many. pairs. of earrings. What I needed most was something to hold them. I had the idea to use a cake plate, but ended up using a vintage cupcake plate instead. The size and shape are perfect for the small space. I’m also using empty candle dishes and flower vases for my hanging earrings.
