Style Imitating Art Inspiration: Textile Sample, ca. 1920
ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways…

Friday Favorites: Insomnia and Color ID
Happy Friday, everyone! I hope y’all had a great week. Mine was exhausting. I go through bouts of insomnia, where I start to exist on about 3 or 4 hours of sleep per night and then after a week or so, my body just crashes. I’ve been this way for as long as I can remember. It’s because I have a hard time turning off my brain… Do you have that problem too? How do you deal? Have you read this post by Debbie at Fashion Fairy Dust? She shared some links to childhood memories and oh my word I couldn’t stop giggling. Kids today have no idea what they’re…

Throwback Thursday: First Snow
I think this picture was taken around 1976ish. My little sister looks like she’s about a year old, and she was born in 1975. We were living in Texas at the time and it was our very snow. You can tell because we’re wearing lightweight jackets. Mom said we were a little puzzled but we enjoyed it. I wish I’d taken pictures of my kids the first time they saw snow. We were living in Pennsylvania at my mother-in-law’s house, and the kids were all gathered around the window, pointing excitedly. When they saw me, they exclaimed: “Milk, Mommy, milk!” I hollered. Enjoy your weekend, Follow Living…

Friday Favorites: Aging Gracefully and Shopping While I Do It
Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you’ve had a great week. Things here have been busy, but in a good way. I think. LOL We’re gearing up for the beginning of the Fall Semester at the college, so things are starting to get exciting. Not only is a new semester starting, but our campus is relocating downtown. We’re all pretty excited. I cannot wait to see the new library. I’ve seen the mock ups, but seeing the real thing? That’s beyond! Anyway, this is my first time joining up with Friday Favorites… I’m supposed to share five of my favorite things from this week. So, here we go: I enjoyed…

Welcome, Bleu Chrys! Our Rescue Pup!
Hi, I’d like for y’all to meet Bleu Chrys. Isn’t she adorable? She’s a 13 month old Terrier mix and she has already stolen our hearts. If you’d like to see more of Bleu on Instagram, follow her hashtag #BleuChrys. It sounds so trite to say that our rescue rescued us, but she really did. Like I said on Instagram, the month of July was a hard one for me: my friend and coworker passed away unexpectedly and Squeekerz had to be put to sleep the morning of my friend’s funeral. Two big blows in the space of two weeks’ time. And I was also dealing with some personal things…

Hi, how was your weekend? Ours was relaxing. On Friday, The Hubs and I went on a tour of the Melrose Plantation, you can see the pictures here. The rest of the weekend was spent – I kid you not – sleeping. I’m not sure why, but I’ve been exhausted lately. I don’t know if it’s just the emotional toll of the past weeks finally hitting me or if it’s hormones… Anyway, how fun is this…

Getting to Know Cenla: A Visit to the Melrose Plantation
Remember last weekend I said that I was stepping out of my comfort zone and going to a photography class? Well, I never made it to the class because I got lost. However, I did end up at this really interesting historic site called the Melrose Plantation. When I arrived, a tour was about to start, but I decided to wait and return with The Hubs. We went back yesterday and I was able to take a few pictures. One thing to note about the Melrose Plantation is that you cannot take any photos inside the main buildings and the roof of the “Big House” was being repaired, so there’s…
