Cranberry Glazed Chicken {In the Kitchen}
I should not be allowed to grocery shop when I’m hungry. It never ends well. Or, at least, it almost never ends well. Case in point: I bought a bag of fresh cranberries with the intentions of making Orange Cranberry Bread. Only I forgot to buy the orange juice and the oranges. So the cranberries sat and sat and sat until they finally got to the “use them or lose them” stage in my fridge. I decided to use them. For chicken. I mean, cranberries and turkey go together like… something, I don’t know, my creativity fizzled after last night’s dinner… Anyway, I was pretty impressed with the final outcome…

Coffee Talk: Dead Rodents Society, Selfies, and When In Rome… {In the Cafe}
Soooo, it’s been a minute since we’ve had one of these little chats, so let me remind you what Coffee Talk is all about… Hi, and welcome to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun. So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk… 1. When I was about…

Tip Tuesday: #NPRBlacksinTech ~ Resources to Encourage Diversity in Technology {In the Library}
A little known fact about me: when I was a kid, I loved math. I wasn’t good at it, but I loved it. I liked that it made sense and that it was stable. There was something therapeutic about fixating on an equation and running the numbers until the problem was solved. My elementary school teachers encouraged me by sitting at my desk, working over each problem until they were sure I understood. Then I went to high school. Our math teacher was a bully. He yelled. He screamed. He said I wasn’t any good. I fell out of love with numbers. That was all it took. One teacher. I…

100 Things: Part IV {About Me}
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14 {NIV} What a powerful declaration! Each and every time I hear a story about a child being bullied, I just want to grab him or her and say 2 things: you are made in the image of God {Genesis 1:27} God loves you {John 3:16} I know what it means to be bullied, to go home crying because the teasing hurt so much that I thought I’d break in two. I understand the kid who sits in the dark of night and thinks life will never get better. I’ve…

Fist Bump Friday: A Coffee Story {In the Cafe}
I know I’m all late with getting this week’s Fist Bump Friday posted but duuuuuude you wouldn’t believe the amount of snow we have. I honestly thought I’d teleported back to Pennsylvania overnight. Seriously, what is this madness? If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know that I like to do a little something called “Fist Bump Friday”, where I encourage my friends to share something that has made them happy during the week. Sometimes we get so bogged down with life and the crazy that comes with it that we forget to recognize the good things. So I thought it’d be fun if we all shared and…

Tip Tuesday: 23 Mobile Things ~ Twitter {In the Library}
Twitter is a social networking platform that allows people to communicate with each other in 140 characters or less. It’s quick, it’s easy, and you wouldn’t believe how adept you become at expressing yourself with a limited amount of characters. I’ve used Twitter for a little over 5 years now and, for me, it’s probably one of the easiest ways for me to stay in contact with my bloggy buddies, librarians and other information professionals. While I don’t always participate in the conversations that are taking place, I do follow the discussions and try to keep up with topics of interest to me. Currently, I’m following #NPRBlacksinTech, which is an…

100 Things: Part III {About Me}
A few weeks ago, the family and I were sitting around the dinner table talking when Miss 20 said, “You never know how crazy your parents are until you move out and then come back home.” blank stare I proceeded to explain to her that we are not crazy, my parents are crazy. Their dad’s parents are crazy. But we are not. Then I started looking at my list… While I’ll admit nothing to her or the rest of those people, I will concede that I’m, ummm, different. 21. I’m a walking talking contradiction. 22. My daughter and I lived in my apartment for almost a year before I turned…

Tip Tuesday: 23 Mobile Things {In the Library}
I’ve always considered myself a bit of a tech junkie. I think that’s part of the charm nature of librarians. We like jumping in and trying new stuff. We’re explorers. We’re questioners. Is that even a word? But we also tend to get stuck in our comfort zones. Or, at least, I do. Years ago, I participated in 23 Things, a free, self~paced course that introduced librarians {and others} to various social media and web 2.0 tools. I was at that point where I was finally comfortable turning on the computer without the hubs looking over my shoulder but not comfortable enough to do much more than read email and…
