Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
Hi, and welcome to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun. So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk… 1. Imagine you hear a mother screaming because her child has been kidnapped. What do you do? Now imagine you’re a teenager and the only tool you have at…

Get Bitter or Get Better: Moving Forward after Trayvon {In the Cafe}
I, like many people, sat glued to my seat as the verdict was read. Not guilty. Another black boy’s life snuffed out. Not guilty. Black lives are worthless. Not guilty. Skittles and a hoodie can get you murdered. Not guilty. Unless your skin is black. Whether we agree with the verdict or not, it is what it is. We can’t change that. But we can change where we go from here; we can get bitter or we can get better. Bitterness is easy. All it requires is for us to wallow in self pity, to lay down the victim card, to riot and react with violence, to throw our hands…

Share Your Good News {In the Cafe}
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know that I like to do a little something called “Fist Bump Friday”, where I encourage my friends to share something that has made them happy during the week. Sometimes we get so bogged down with life and the crazy that comes with it that we forget to recognize the good things. So I thought it’d be fun if we all shared and celebrated together. So please, share your good news in the comments below. Remember, it doesn’t have to be big or earth shattering. If it’s important to you, it’s important to me. This week, I’m happy that my daughter…

Weekend Update {In the Neighborhood}
The 4th of July weekend has come and gone. Way too quickly. We didn’t have any real plans because I had to work on Friday, so we just kinda played it by ear. 1. Why is it during the week day I could sleep til noon, but come the weekend my internal alarm goes off at 5:30 AM? The only way to make it through was with an extra large cup of coffee. Actually, that’s how I start just about every morning but you knew that already, didn’t ya? 2. The hubs and I went to the park to see the car show. There were so many vintage cars, tricked…

July Photo A Day Challenge {In the Dark Room}
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve participated in the Photo A Day Challenge hosted by Fat Mum Slim. I think I’ve been so focused on running and training for my 5K that I’ve forgotten to just enjoy taking photos, I hope this will get me back in the groove. As usual, I’ll be participating on Instagram, you can follow me by clicking here. I’ll try to remember to do a weekly round up of photos here, just so I can get back in the habit of sharing something other than my sweaty face. Are you participating? Leave a link in the comments so I can check out your photos.…

5 Things I’m Sorry My Kids Will Never Experience {In the Family Room}
Do you remember playing outside until the street lights came on? Or sliding down a metal sliding board at the peak of summer? Riding in the back of station wagons without the benefit of seat belts? Ahhhh, those were the good ol’ days. We were hard core. We survived! Too bad our kids will never fully understand those joys. And here’s a list of other things they may never experience: 5. Recording Songs Off the Radio ~ I remember sitting there with my finger hovering over the pause button, desperately trying to avoid the DJ’s needless chatter. Seriously, he couldn’t wait til the end of the song to crack that…
