Share Your Good News {In the Cafe}
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know that I like to do a little something called “Fist Bump Friday”, where I encourage my friends to share something that has made them happy during the week. Sometimes we get so bogged down with life and the crazy that comes with it that we forget to recognize the good things. So I thought it’d be fun if we all shared and celebrated together. So please, share your good news in the comments below. Remember, it doesn’t have to be big or earth shattering. If it’s important to you, it’s important to me. This week I’m happy that I managed…

It’s the Little Things {In the Dark Room}
I realized this morning that it’s been a while since I’ve shared a photo from my 365 Project: 2013 Edition. Truth be told, I’m having a difficult time keeping up with the project. There’ve been times when I just haven’t felt inspired. I see my camera sitting on the end table and have no real desire to pick it up. I keep looking around my house and saying “They’ve seen it all.” Which makes me wonder, who am I taking pictures for? When I started this project, I wanted to document my 4oth year. My life isn’t always fun and exciting. Sometimes the highlight of my day is making a…

Distracted Students and Shattered Dreams {In the Cafe}
1. “Leggings are not pants!” Every time I look at the black leggings folded up in my drawer, my daughter’s voice echoes in my ears. She said that the first time she saw me in a denim shirt, leggings, and boots. You can see the offending outfit here. For the record, the denim shirt was long enough to cover the junk in my trunk but still my daughter said I was a big ol’ don’t. I didn’t agree with her and wore the outfit anyway. Upon further reflection, the socks were also a big ol’ oh no you don’t. However, in recent weeks, I’ve come to realize that leggings are…

The Big Chop {About Me}
I did it. The Big Chop. All of my hair is gone. I’m not sure if it’s liberation or panic that I feel. Probably a little bit of both. Two years ago, I started transitioning from relaxed to natural hair. It wasn’t a political statement, it was more of a I~don’t~feel~like~bending~over~that~tub~to~wash~that~stuff~out~of~my~hair kinda thing. Or call it lazy. Either way, I just didn’t want to do it anymore. So I quit. Transitioning to natural hair wasn’t a difficult process for me. Yeah, I had mixed textures and there were days when I threw on a headband and called it a day. But, for the most part, I was cool. Then I…

Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
1. Last week, a federal judge in Brooklyn, New York ordered that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration make the morning after pill available without a prescription to women of all ages. This includes girls under the age of 17. I’m not going to get into the discussion over whether abortion should be legal or not because this isn’t about abortion, this is about preventing a pregnancy before it occurs. However, I will get into the discussion over whether or not children under the age of 17 should be allowed to get medication, any medication, without a prescription or parental knowledge. You can read the story here. There is something fundamentally…

Visit to St. Louis {About Me}
When the kids were little, the hubs and I figured out a work around for the dreaded travel questions. You know the ones: Where we going? How long are we staying? Are we there yet? We simply quit giving the kids advanced notice about trips. Instead, we’d wait until a few minutes before we ready to go and then we’d tell them to go get in the car. We once took them from Pennsylvania to Mississippi using this method. I’m telling you this is the secret! Anyway, the hubs and I decided to go old school and whisk the kids away for a day trip. So, Saturday morning we told…

He is Risen {In the Church}
Happy Resurrection Sunday! Today I’m happy to proclaim that my redeemer lives. And because He lives, I have the gift of eternal life. This gift can be yours too. To receive it, all you have to do is confess with your mouth and believe with your heart that Jesus is Lord, then you are saved {Romans 10:9~10}.

No Greater Love {In the Church}
The hubs likes to say “love is not a feeling, it’s an action”; it demands the individual to do something that requires sacrifice on his or her part. Jesus set the example for love when he gave his life for us way back on calvary. John 15:13 says: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friend.” Even in our sinful state, Jesus loved us enough to call us “friend” and take the punishment for our sins. And this was not just any death, this was a most brutal death. He was whipped, spit upon, beat up, battered, bloodied and then nailed to a…
