    The Turning Point {In the Church}

    25 March 2013 / 0 Comments

    When I was about 8 or 9 years old, my family and I walked through the doors of Progressive Church of God in Christ in Colorado; at the end of the service, a group of kids walked up to us and introduced themselves. They were led by a young lady who would become my dearest friend and sister for life, Kim. For the years that my dad was stationed in Colorado, our lives were so intertwined with Kim’s that I hardly have a memory of those years without her being there. After we moved to Italy, we kept in touch for a while, but like with almost all childhood relationships…

    Date Night at the Mississippi River {In the Neighborhood}

    21 March 2013 / 2 Comments

    When you’re a parent, finding time for a date night can be hard. Sometimes it seems impossible. But, let me tell you, it’s so vitally important that you carve out time for each other. I know a lot of moms put their children first but your marriage should come first and then the kids. Trust me on this one. One day your kids are going to grow up and leave your home and you’re gonna be stuck with that man that you married and the last thing you want is to be stuck staring at a stranger who you have absolutely no desire to get to know. Anyway, one of the things…

    Flowers and Favorites {About Me}

    18 March 2013 / 6 Comments

    Have you ever had one of those days where everything is just meh? You’re neither happy nor sad, bored nor busy? That was Friday. Until I got phone call from the florist asking if I was home to receive a delivery. What?! Who would be sending me flowers? The hubs is terribly allergic to anything that has even a spot of green on it, so I knew it wasn’t him. I quickly called home and told the kids to take delivery of the flowers for me. Then my paranoia stepped in and I started thinking all sorts of crazy thoughts… What if it’s poison? What if one of the kids…

    Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}

    15 March 2013 / 13 Comments

    Hi, and welcome to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever.  And there may be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun. 1. Two weeks ago Terrilynn Monette was out celebrating her “Teacher of the Year” nomination, within a few hours she would vanish without a trace. There’s so much wrong with this story that it’s hard to find the beginning… Monette was last seen celebrating with friends at Parlay’s,…

    Google Reader is Disappearing {In the Cafe}

    13 March 2013 / 14 Comments

    Ya know, it seems like every time I start using a product or get hooked on a TV show, Jericho, anyone? it gets discontinued and I’m left scrambling to find a replacement… And so it is with my favorite feed reader, Google Reader. Last week’s 365 Project: 2013 Edition theme was “Double Exposure”; this was my submission. If you’d like to see my daily pictures, click here. It was announced on 13 March that Google Reader will retire on 1 July 2013. What? Who made that decision? And how come they didn’t talk to me first? That gives us three months to find a new reader. If you’d like to…

    Three Things {About Me}

    11 March 2013 / 6 Comments

    This year is a year of celebration for me. Not that I don’t celebrate every year, but this year I turned forty. Actually, I turned forty on yesterday and today I’m celebrating my eighteenth wedding anniversary. Yes, I realize I totally hosed myself on the gift department…but being married to my bff is the gift. Yeah, I’m totally gagging, ’cause we do not talk like that. We make fun of people who talk like that. Anyway, I decided to celebrate my fortieth year by taking photos of myself. Because, you know, the weekly What I Wore Wednesday pictures aren’t enough… Anyway, here’s what I have so far: 1. January I’m…

    Rock the Red Pump {In the Cafe}

    10 March 2013 / 2 Comments

    First of all, I’d like to give all honor and glory to God for allowing me to celebrate my 40th birthday today. He has blessed me with so much: good health, a loving family {some by blood, many by choice}, friends who mean the world to me, and this platform that allows me to reach so many with the truth of His love and grace. Today, the United States will recognize National Women and Girls HIV/AIDs Awareness Day, an initiative established in 2006 by the Office on Women’s Health to raise awareness about HIV/AIDs infection among women and girls. I have dedicated today’s blog post to The Red Pump Project, a grassroots organization that raises awareness…

    Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}

    8 March 2013 / 8 Comments

    So often when focusing on the news, we highlight the bad and ignore the good, well, this week, I want it all good… 1. A United Airlines crew held up a flight so that a man could make his connecting flight in order to be with his mom as she lay dying. Seriously, this made my eyes well up at my desk…  A man who was flying from California to Texas to be by his mom’s side missed his connecting flight and became distraught. Once the flight crew found out what happened, they offered the man some tissues and their apologies. In the meantime, the pilot called the connecting pilot…

    Thursday Likes {In the Cafe}

    7 March 2013 / 7 Comments

    I thought I’d try something new on Thursdays; instead of just posting a picture and linking to my flickr account, I thought I’d share a couple of things I’ve found while surfing the web. These may be links to products I think are cool, blog posts I find interesting, or outfits I absolutely love… I hope you’ll find these things as interesting as I do. 1. Coffitivity ~ When I work, I like having a bit of ambient noise to help get my mental motor going. I also used to like working in the coffee shop before I started working in the library. I liked the hum of conversation, the…
