Squeekerz {Missing Dog Alert}
This has been a very difficult week for my family and me. Last Friday morning, our beloved dog of 10 years, Squeekerz, decided to go for a walk without his leash or his humans. Those of you who are long time readers know that Squeekerz has become quite a fixture in my photography. He’s a first class photo bomber! And often likes to pose for pictures (this after spending many months getting over his fear of the camera sounds). I’ve never been a big proponent of pet chipping, honestly, the thought of putting something inside my dog sort made me feel all Big Brotherish… But after this past week, I…

Giving Thanks for the Small Things {This or That Thursday}
Sometimes I get so caught up in the big picture that I miss the little things. For example, I took this picture using Instagram because I thought the light coming off the setting sun was just beautiful. In fact, I was so awestruck by the evening sky that I didn’t even notice the lone shopping cart until after I had posted the picture. And it made me think, how many times have I been so involved in the “big” things of life that I forget to give thanks for the “little” things? Life has no guarantees, in fact, Psalm 103:15~16 says: “The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish…

Rollin’ Like a Boss
For years, every time my family wanted to go somewhere we had to take two vehicles because there wasn’t enough room in one car for everyone. Truth be told, the only time it really became an issue was when we wanted to take a vacation or visit family but, for the most part, we were all on different schedules so we rarely traveled en masse until we moved here. Now things are different. We want to hang out together. So the hubs and I started talking and praying about trading in my car for something bigger. We told God the desires of our hearts and explained that we didn’t want…

My Last Day of Freedom {Family}
Today was the kids’ last day of school. Insert tears here. Today was also my last day of freedom. Insert wailing and moaning here. The kids will be with me every. Single. Day. For the next 3 months… Knowing I was dreading my impending loss of freedom, the hubs took today off and declared it “Day of Daenel”. We started the day with breakfast at our favorite diner, Hickory House Restaurant. That was our only plan, we decided to play the rest of our day by ear. So we hopped in the car and drove down to the Mississippi River. If you’re a regular reader, you know how much I…

My Last Week of Freedom {Family}
This is my last week of freedom. On Friday those people will be out of school for the entire summer. I’ve enjoyed my time alone… freedom to wander about… enjoy coffee with friends… hang with the hubs on his days off… sit in the grass and soak up the sun… Now that time will be interrupted by “Mom, I’m bored!” or “Mom, I’m hungry!” So I’ll spend my last week of freedom just being in the moment and trying not to think about them. How will you spend your last week of freedom?

Happy Mother’s Day
One of my mother’s favorite sayings is “Give me my flowers while I’m still living.” Meaning, don’t celebrate me and talk about how much you love me after I’m gone, tell me now while I can appreciate it. I used to think that was such a hard thing to say until my father passed away a few years ago and I wrote a post about how much I loved him and would miss him. Seriously, it’s so much easier to tell people you love them while they’re still with you and it’s better for the soul. So, Mom, here are your flowers… My sisters and I were raised in church. In…

A Girl and Her Guitar
Last week, Miss 15 begged me to take her to the store because she’d been saving her babysitting money to buy something very special… An acoustic guitar, which she’s teaching herself to play. Do you remember what you spent your first earnings on?

1957 Chevy Bel Air {Photography}
Yesterday, I got to spend some one~on~one time with the boy. It’s rare that he and I spend time hanging out with each other. I’m so not into video games and he could care less about crocheting. But one thing we do have in common is a love of old cars. Who knew? When we spotted this 1957 Chevy Bel Air in the parking lot, we just had to stop. We walked around the car, talked about how we’d fix it up. Where we’d like to take it on a drive. Just a bunch of random musings… I had no idea that the boy was that into cars. And I’m…

My Weekend {Instagram Edition}
How was your Easter weekend? Ours was pretty nice. Church was incredible ~ how could it not be, we’re serving a risen savior!? The kids and I enjoyed a wonderful French Toast breakfast prepared for us by the hubs. Seriously, moving to Missouri has brought out some hidden culinary skills in that man. I would have taken a picture of our breakfast but, um, the food looked too good to stop everyone from digging in, so you have a picture of our coffee cups. I took a couple of hours out of my day to go to the Conservation Center and reflect on life and all of the blessings that…

Dude, Did You Spray the Water Hose in the House?
Have you ever been walking and see something that triggers a funny memory and you just have to share it? Yeah? Well, that’s what happened to me the other day. I saw the water hose in the yard and started laughing so hard tears were threatening to ruin my perfect makeup day. I immediately grabbed my cell and called my mom who started laughing too. Cue tinkly music and squiggly flashback lines My sisters and I grew up in a very strange household. My stepfather (who will hereafter be called “Dad” because that’s what we call him) was a giant kid. A giant kid who loved to play pranks on…
